This entire analysis is based on statistical production during a 4 year career. It’s much easier to break through against weaker competition. If the hit rate on 4 stars going to P2 out of high school is close to the hit rate of 3 stars at P4/G5 then it’s abundantly clear the 4 stars are superior players. Take a guy like Kelvin Gilliam, blue chip recruit who barely saw the field competing with other blue chippers. Had 10 tackles in 19 games played over three seasons at OU then comes to VT and has 69 tackles in two seasons. You would’ve rated him a bust for sure without transferring down to a lower level of competition. Same concept for guys like Ali Jennings who barely saw the field at WVU but dropped down to ODU and cleaned up
