Feedback and pushback is welcome
I welcome feedback and criticism. My main goal is to have a discussion about recruiting and to warn people to not get too caught up in recruiting since a large percentage of these guys will not contribute.
I do think medical retirements need to be counted as part of the overall attrition number since it is part of the sport. There have been many guys who have retired medically within months of enrolling.
Covid has changed things a bit since guys now play SIX years instead of three or four years. The portal also makes high school recruiting less important since late developing FCS players want to step up. I would say that ten years of data is a good enough sample size.
My argument is to avoid chasing stars and focus instead on film evaluation and discussions with coaches and rival school coaches. An experienced coach can probably look at film and determine if a prospect is a future contributor and they could talk to a rival school's coach who will let the coach know if the kid has attitude problems. Some players peak in high school while others have massive growth spurts at age eighteen or later.
My ranking system is simple since I'm too lazy and stupid to assign ratings to every player. People can even ignore my analysis and look to see which players contributed.
There are more dynamic players among the two and three star players compared to the four star players. The four star players are harder to get since more schools are offering them. Terrell and Tremaine Edmunds were three stars players so stars don't mean nothing. Trey Edmunds was a four star and he was the least talented of the brothers but he should have been playing defense.
