Tech should be able to have recruiting resources evaluating and contacting
Portal players while preparing for game on Tuesday

The issue is going to be less the contacting and watching the portal...
...and more figuring out how much NIL money is available and how to balance it out in a situation that could get pricey if you need an ACC caliber starters at PG, wing and center.

THere are coaches that have that responsibility. This is not an issue.
There are about 100 teams in tournaments.

If we could do it 8 years ago at Radford (CBI) then VT should have no issue

I can see opting out of the CBI tournament, but not the NIT.

Marquette opted out of the ncaa in 1970.
A lot of us remember that. Coach told the players they would get more exposure in New York then playing in Kansas .

So basically it's just a lame excuse by these schools opting out? (Focus on
recruiting). Sounds like sour grapes honestly. Are there any NCAA restrictions on anyone from the staff reaching out to portal players while they are playing the NIT?

Yes...
That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. But yes, it's illegal. The NCAA refuses to enforce many things however

I'm shocked......

I wonder if some schools are opting out because they have players entering
the portal who have said they won’t play. Only takes a couple to leave for most teams to not have enough guys at the right positions to properly rotate guys in and out for their protection.

If you can't field a team you shouldn't play
That would be fine. But don't buy into the notion that schools *should* skip to help with recruiting
