Question about our 2 new recruits for you bball finatics
How would you rate our 2 guys defensively? I’ve seen nickels has a bit of O in him, wondering about D.

There should always be help in the gaps if you're playing the defense the correct way.
The issue with this year's defense (for the 80th time) is that people who weren't ready for rotational roles were playing rotational roles and were not in the spot they needed to be defensively when they needed them to be there.
It is as much an understanding of the scheme than any defensive "skill"...the only way to get better at the understanding is to get older and get reps. You're not going to significantly improve the defense by simply plugging and playing unless you want to sacrifice the offense.
The defense will be back in the 40-60 range next season (if they stay healthy) and the offense will be better

Many ways to be successful playing the game of basketball.
But, my old high school coach (an English teacher), would tell us that everyone has to be reading the same book, on the same page, on the same paragraph, and interpret the same meaning of a word for the team to be successful. It didn't sink in back then to most of the team. When I started coaching the light went on for me.

he chose us right out of HS? Any guesses on how much he plays next year? Does he compare to any previous Hokies? Kid was a definite stud in high school based on his numbers.

Would VT have been planning for him to be a rotational piece at VT this season? No
Would he have been since 3 players were missing? Probably. Ask John Camden

What do you think of Camden's game and how he will impact the team next season.

We certainly haven’t gotten “better” on the defensive end with our new additions
Long can guard on the perimeter but he’s nowhere near the post presence Mutts was

off Nickel's time at UNC that might be misleading. They haven't played a lot of D at UNC with Roy or Hubert and the jury is still out on whether Hubert can even coach defense.

championships with offense and up tempo and very, very little defense. Hubert is a disciple of Roy's even if he did play for Dean. There was obviously some hyperbole involved as well.

But they were more efficient defensively than offensively this season, but top 50 in both
Their last 5 years in adjusted defensive efficiency

15th (Natl Champs)

One bad year

I still hope we get a quality 4 so Long can slide between 3 and 4, let's see.
