Because it is relative to your peers

There are actually 100 answers to this question... The Men's team is literally 3 shots rimming out from being 20-6...the women's team is 20-7 The men's team doesnt somehow get better if those circumstances happen, they just have a worse record. But the biggest difference is the percentage of teams in each conference in women's basketball (and all non-revs) who choose to fund their programs competitively in a given year. In football it would not go over well for even the teams at the bottom to sit out a year or two funding-wise. In men's basketball I'm sure there are some instances of it, but it's scarce. In women's basketball, the bottom 5 teams in the ACC aren't even trying to pretend. FSU and BC women had LOSING records OOC. That's hard to do. Georgia Tech men's team is one of the worst teams I've ever seen in the ACC and they went 9-4 OOC. So the buy games are a lot easier if you can pick out which schools in lower conferences aren't funded. And you are getting 5 auto-wins in conference.... Almost half of the women's teams in the ACC already have 10 wins in conference. Theres a huge disparity between the tryers and the dont cares.

Nobody considers WBB to be underfunded. It's well-funded, actually.

Good stuff. But the problem is, these are visible numbers.
