And catchers who have tons of potential but make mistakes like that

Have you ever tried to catch a high pop up with a catchers mitt ? Probably
not. I have many times and it’s very difficult. Give the kid a break he made and error, it not a tumor.

And you will miss about 2 out 10 if you are very good. It’s not like a
routine fly ball to outfield or infield and nearly impossible to simulate it for practice. It’s one of the hardest plays to make in baseball.

Yep, turn your back to infield. and ball will back up to you, use 2 hands

I get it. I said it was a tough play
He’s a FR with TONS of physical tools & potential. Needs work on mechanics of catching or maybe needs to play 1B. He does have a cannon of an arm On that popup he correctly held onto the mask until he got a bead on it then threw it out of the way. The mistake he made was not putting his off hand on the ball on the catch because those do have heavy spin & are hard to hold in a catcher’s mitt with one hand It’s more a “crap that’s a tough break after a mistake by a Fr” not blaming him necessarily. Just a really unfortunate series of circumstances that out the game likeky out of our reach ** Edited by hokiepro at 4/29/2023, 10:10:51 PM
