Posting History (311)

He is absolutely well over 1 MM for next season

Cannot say whether it is actually 3 MM but 1 MM is a layup for him. Budgets have exploded. I know what my friend is getting at a P4 school for next season (huge money, btw). I have been texting with another close buddy this morn who played for a MM and now a lead NIL donor at this school that VT has tried to pilfer from. Things have blown out. Ironically, he told me the exact numbers of a kid that this board loved that, of course, we ultimately did not land. 150K in 24/25 season going to 850K in 25/26 to be a backup guy at a pretty good but, not great, hoops school. These are facts not speculation.

Agree w this. Can tell you firsthand that backup SEC/Big East guards are

getting 500K+. This is a fact and cannot be disputed. Huge inflation again this year, almost more than last year.

Bucky will not play a 5 who is unwilling to pass out of the post

The opposite of a guy like Wessler.. who got the rock so infrequently that, come hell or high water, was going to back his guy down in the post to get his paint layup opp.

That would be a great pickup no doubt

but I will wait to see how this develops, for obvious reasons, before getting pumped up. He really must have carried that team almost by himself it seems.

Bucky disagrees, I am siding with him. VT hoops is lagging timing wise

Most ACC schools have signed 2-4 players out of the portal to date. If Frazier had not come back, we would have 0 like 2 other crappy programs in our conference. Bucky does not pull punches generally. "We won't be able to be as selective as we'd like to be. We have to fill a roster, and this season is different than any other season because with the lawsuit, that stuff that was going on, most of the players this year went to the portal early because the compensation out there was significant early because most programs thought they needed to spend a large percentage of their money before this lawsuit was settled," McMillan said. "And so because of that, a lot of players are not available and particularly at the level of player that we need in the SEC."

Most ACC schools have announced/signed 2-4 transfers already

That said, Notre Dame and GT have 0 announced. I am not sure what their existing rosters look like though.

Would be incredibly fortunate to land him, but that is also unlikely

Kids like him should play in systems that fit what they can do physically. He would shoot himself in the foot coming here.

Yes, we do not want a wing with a 26 PER, lets stick with our 8-11 PER guys

Would you like me to list them out? If he does not fit the system, maybe we need a new one, lol. ** Edited by catdaddy at 4/5/2025, 10:19:28 AM

You have taken your Gaslighting of the board to a new level, congrats.

The 3 players may or may not be ACC level starters collectively and you know that but continue with your delusional posts about how things are setting up for a positive outcome. How has that been working for you? Next thing you might tell us is that we can actually still go a worse case 18-13 on the year. Just reverse the 3 and 8 and we will be square.

Do not believe the game has passed him, but he would not be your choice

if a P4 team were looking for a coach in this cycle. In other words, would VT make the same choice years ago if the current environment existed at the time? Answer would be an emphatic No.. which basically tells us he is a lame duck coach at this time until we get a new AD.

Hopefully it is obvious to most (or all) how good Pedulla was for VT.

We are destined for crappy rental PG's from now until our situation changes so pretty obvious now what a keeper Pedulla was. That said, he went to a much, much better situation and also got paid for it lol. A true win-win for him!

Everyone that recruited him will look again. They saw our dumpster fire

program and he will get another shot at P4 schools. He will not automatically drop to a SOCO level but could. It will be his choice though. LSU, UGA, GT.. forget but he had a bunch of offers.

I love Rech and have been shocked at his struggles. A lot is on the staff

and system bc this kid has a ton of potential, skill, etc. My gut says he kicks arse at his next stop and I will be pulling for him big-time.

You are not allowed to say anything that diminishes our team in any way.

Particularly if our Gas-Lighting Hokie and his stepbrother, Dale, are in the house. Yes, you are right in your message. Most of the players who leave VT perform better at their next stop. Almost all of them actually with the main exception being Lynn Kidd who had nothing to work with.

Missed game, how are 4 assists in 50 mins possible for a well coached team?

Legit question. I have never ever seen a stat line of 18 TO's and 4 assists... ever. Can we all blame NIL? lol

KenPom disagrees with your subjective opinion. 50+ no name schools w/o NIL

blow us out of the water in analytics. Would you like me to list them out? Here are a few. North Alabama (who just went D1 a few yrs ago) CSUN Troy Jack State St Thomas Kent State Milwaukee Robert Morris etc etc

Was at the Florida, Alabama game this week

Just a different level in terms of physicality, athleticism, etc. Very interesting the way Golden put together his roster. He has done a really good job and gotten a few mid major kids, along with some big recruits, to play at an even higher level than their prior school. The big white kid, Condon, is a really good find. Auburn went out and got Miles Kelly because they knew he was a better shooter than his numbers said. His shots at GT were late in the clock and then he was forced into putting up crap. At AU, he is now a 40% 3 pt shooter. I just have little to no confidence that our current staff thinks this way. They throw up a bunch of parts that do not fit together and hope for the best. Plus, very few can make the players around them better. I think Sean left for this reason as much as the money.. he knew there was nothing in the tank to help him.

Do you use Kirkland brand for your diarrhea of the mouth? Your copycat

posts just ruin the board experience. Do you have anything else to do or someone to filter you?

It shouldn't be lost on anyone that if we ignored many of your predictions

that have been so awful, you actually would be pretty good at this too! Still see upside to possibly 20 wins on the year?

Yes, I agree but have those players developed and progressed

under this staff as one would hope? Collins, no. Maddox a little who then regressed and now better. Rice who knows he was not here. Nickel, probably not either. Our kids under this staff who stay, generally, do not improve. We have had 1 or 2 successes and 8+ failures. Btw, I owe the board a mea culpa. I loved Rechsteiner and thought he would be the man so thus far that has not happened. I also loved Pedulla (and still do) but he did not improve under this staff for obvious reasons. The pieces they provide to the PGs are not adequate.

Can we have an honest discussion on this staff and why NIL is just another

factor but not the only (and primary) factor? We are now #170 in KP and schools higher than us include: Norfolk State, Utah Valley, Cal Baptist, North Alabama, Texas St, Sam Houston State, UMASS Lowell, Kent St, MTSU, etc. Heck VT is flanked by Jacksonville right above us and Jack State right below us. How is that for irony. Hint: it is not just about NIL. Other than Hunter Cattoor, this staff has not been able to develop ACC level guards or really even wings. I do not know why but it seems kids get worse when they come here and better when they leave and just do not seem to have the normal progression of improvement until after they leave. I cannot put my finger on it. What set Brent apart was his ability to identify guards and have them grow and prosper.. kids like Justin Robinson and Wade Taylor. I wish we could do PFF scores for our kids, CC would have a field day. PER tells us a lot and it ain't pretty. We need a hard reset on our program but I think the only way that truly happens is a new AD. If CMY steps down (a huge if, btw) and Whit is here.. he will probably elevate Giltner who would keep the same horrific, boring system in place. A new AD would absolutely can everyone but how realistic is that in the next year or so?

Exactly and it ain't our fearless head coach at this point. Total reset

needed on philosophy etc. I am not going to lie but I have heard him referred to as a townie.. not being disrespectful but in the context it was absolutely hilarious. This is pretty much where we are.

This is why you have so many user names and get banned so often

Very humorous to hear you get called out on 247 in the Chris Arvin thread. You have quite the reputation over there which, unfortunately for us, just makes Hoops season that much tougher.

Silver lining on season.. sort of

Folks are asking or feeling that this might be the worst VT team in the modern area? No, it is not. IMO, it is not even close to the crap that JJ put up in his tenure as our HC. JJ's last "team" was so much worse than this one but look at the players he had. 2 NBA fringe kids in Erick Green and Jarell Eddie. He started them along side Cadarian Raines, Robert Brown and CJ Barksdale for goodness sake! Imagine if CMY trotted out that lineup every night?! CMY, in his element, is a very good coach. He is just an awful fit for where we are in the portal era, etc. Whit hired him because he just went 30-5 with a prolific 3 pt shooter and because he would be loyal to VT, unlike Brent. Whit being reactionary, again, is why we are in this situation we are in. Key question is.. what happens next? Does Mike Young step down at the end of the year? Does he stay on and blow up his staff? Surely, we cannot go through another year like this as a zombie program.
