Posting History (311)

Hokies, this staff is 6-21 vs P4 teams with a pulse since Jan 1, 2024

What does with a pulse mean? P4 teams with winning records when we played them. There are 3 additional wins against trash teams last yr like Louisville, ND and GT which really should not count for much. If you honestly believe this is all about NIL, Hysier Miller or Whit.. I do not know what to tell you. Mike Young and his staff are equally complicit and then some in this travesty. He could not hold onto his players.. way before NIL was running rampant. He has no talent on this team.. almost none. I am sure we can at least agree on this. Yes, NIL is a huge factor but kids are running away from his system which is an awful design for where College hoops are today. Hoping for an early retirement.

Like I said, 50-75%+ of the reasons Mike Young was hired no longer exist.

The 25% or so of the reasons he was hired will always be there.. a rock solid loyalty guy who is from the NRV.

KenPom says we are the worst P4 team thus far at #137

Don't get me wrong, we are absolutely awful but I do think we will improve incrementally more than most teams as we progress through the season. I am more interested to see what changes happen this off season in our staff and strategy.

Exactly. They missed on John Camden twice.. no joke.

That said, there are huge fundamental reasons why this staff can't get the right players.. some is their fault and some is not.

Current staff needs a complete player evaluation overhaul

In addition to a bunch of other improvements. For every really good college player we were close to landing, I can name you 5 or 10 busts that we wanted bad in the same breadth. The only 2 that I can remember being really, really good college players that we had a chance with were Clowndog (Noah Clowney) and PJ Hall. I am sure there were a couple of others but not many! I could type the 20 busts but that would take too long.

I would ask you if you are kidding on this question but I know you are not

Other than the staff knew about the scandal, etc.. nothing else matters.. literally nothing. Just due to the headline risk alone, you would stay away from the lead guard/player who was the most important member of their team. You would simply not recruit him and their inexperience at these sort of things have shown up in the net result. Just a huge risk of skeletons and new cockroaches appearing at any moment. Go find another kid in the portal and my best guess is Mike Young was fed this kid by one of the assistants as he would have probably never taken the lead on this.

Good points. I did notice that in some of our biggest blowout losses

we got run out of the gym at a super high tempo. Ole' Mike lost some sleep those nights I am sure. The faster VT goes w our roster, the worse we are.

Haha, I do not mean to but if you have this opinion it is probably somewhat

accurate. I like Mike Young the guy.. great guy but I think he is one of those coaches that is really challenged in the modern era of hoops. A lot of the reasons we hired him no longer exist. Find guys like Hunter C, help them develop and have a team peak in the 4th or 5th year. This is not going to work anymore. I would say he was 50% hired for his system/player development and 50% bc he was a SW guy who would be incredibly loyal to VT. 50% of that no longer exists, IMO. He misjudges many of his HS kids at an alarming rate. Half his backcourt, it seems, leaves the team 2 weeks before the season last few years. Incredibly important players.. why does this keep happening? Is this not at least a red flag? Lastly, athletes are not going to play in his system because they are not free which means the team is less exciting than most. Maybe its just me, but I much prefer to watch exciting hoops where the teams get up and down the floor.

Haha, so how does "more than likely" NIL become "definitely" NIL?

Your exact words (and mine too). I actually hedge my thoughts.. you offer statement of facts that are actually just opinions. Go ahead and explain away.. since the season is about to start "I am getting thirsty".

Was not on computer today, How bad was our coach/staff played? legit

question as I am just reading some of the stuff now. Looks like a serious indictment on our program leaders.. just sayin'

Agree on both, but elephant in the room is that CMY is a 60 yr old neophyte

At reading a kid's intentions and how he will fit in his locker room. As I speculated, Miller is a selfish player and Mike Young built his roster around him and his red flags. That is on our ball coach.

You mean CMY tweeting 2 or 3x in last 12 months is not good enough?

2 of them were about his camps, lol. Brent was absolutely self promoting but better than nothing.

Could be no doubt. I was speculating..hence I said "more than likely"

Just an educated guess but, yes, could very well be a location thing too. To me, just smells a little more like NIL.

HINT to JOSEWALES444, ancient alien: "How to disguise your next alias"

1) Do not have your name in ALL CAPS followed by 444 2) Do not post 30x in the course of a 2 hour period after midnight 3) Do not follow your 30x worthless spam posts with 30 exclamations!!!!!!!!

Never said he was selfish.

If the implication was there, it was Hoops speak as it relates to his game/fit and CMY's system.

Just realized why ancient alien and his other aliases like JOSEWALES444

DEU444,etc posts so incessantly at midnight and into the wee hours each day. - AOL dial up offers an ad supported free connection - Benny Hill reruns are over

Easy to connect the dots on this one

Mike Young brings in a transfer (or any recruit actually) with his default method... he and his staff throw a bunch of crap at the wall and see what sticks. If the sh** sticks, the kid is probably a take. Evidence suggests very little emphasis is actually placed on fit, if the kid is selfish, etc. Look at Bamisile, the K State transfer guard, Rice and all the other kids he has brought in that quickly walked or did not post at all. We basically do not turn many kids away like the larger schools so if the kid shows interest, we are good. This is, more than likely, a NIL issue where Miller heard one thing and was delivered something else. Regardless of whose fault this is or where it goes, another Mike Young train wreck that will be hard to course correct as the season is upon us. That said, I like Rech a lot and he will show that he can ball.

Our program has little to no swag for a HS kid. Being in the ACC is prob

the best attribute that we have. The kids, of course, like MY and the staff a lot but they are generally the kids with lower levels of athleticism and physical gifts also. That said, if HS kids were not so star struck and went for the best fit possible that would help everybody. Sorry, Tyler Nickel to UNC and John Camden to Memphis were very poor fits at their initial destination.

I do not think this is a loss for us.. roster wise

Good kid/player but his ranking is inflated (IMO) due to the HS/Summer ball program he played in. He did/does like VT a lot but I have always sort of considered him more of mid major kid.. like at Wofford, Belmont etc almost being the top end. He is/was very well coached and the system is pretty much the exact opposite that is run at VT. That said, Mike appeals to a lot of these kids that have tweener athleticism but I personally do not feel like it is a great fit skill wise.

That is really going out on a limb

I wonder which is "the best bet of the 3 visitors to become a Hokie?" 2 top 50 kids or a top 135 kid? With your record, good idea to get a win any way possible.

They appear to really want this 2025 kid from Huntsville, AL

The whole staff was in to see him last week. He is a 2 pretty much only so I guess he would not compete with Frost or Crotty. Link below

This coupled w/ a huge improvement in SEC hoops at same time.

Alabama, Auburn, et al. This is devastating to Kentucky fans..they cannot stand it.

Woah, GLHokie34.. I see the same pattern starting from your VT Scoop board

departure. You are getting awfully upset and lashing out at folks who have not said what you are alleging. We all know why you only post here now, not a secret. Let me be crystal clear. With regards to our Sweet 16 run.. the only thing I have ever said is some combo of the following: CMY made an incredible run, just unbelievable. Caught lightning in a bottle. Ran through the gauntlet and earned every bit of that championship. Amazing run. We were lucky that Duke and Carolina couldn't hit wide open 3's, etc. I have never, ever said or inferred that our Sweet 16 run was a "fluke" or "easier than a Sweet 16 run". Please stop fabricating this nonsense and be more factual.

ACC is significantly weaker than what Seth and Brent had to go against.

Purely looking at the stats. This is straight from Ken Pom, btw, so no gaslighting on this one.

Actually you have repeatedly mocked/discounted wins over St. Louis/Liberty

and generally pushed down the Sweet 16 accomplishment, in general, as a result of beating 2 weak opponents. That is your take not mine. Those teams were good or they would not have been there. Can we at least agree on this? If we can't, we will wait for the gaslighting to resume.

I agree, it was hilarious

that you had no clue that 247 was not even in business for 11 of the years that you cited.

Super valuable info!

You cite 247 (non composite) for the last 25 years. 247 was founded 14 yrs ago. The 4 top 10 recruits you mention are Rice, Bamisile, Jones and Gurdak. - The 2 that played for us were busts.. literally were not even on the floor for a cup of coffee. - The next 2 have never played a minute for us. Gurdak has not even signed his LOI. Recruiting is also about the right fit mentally and CMY mostly seems to lay a turd in this department with so many of his players walking. No, Bamisile was not a perfect fit for our system as you have claimed in the past. Rice's was just as bad.
