Yep. More reactive vs proactive. Team waits for something good to happen.
First noticed it last year when they played at Lousiville. Zero urgency. Like things are just happening around them as they play.
Just felt like this isn't really the same team or to put it simply, they don't play up to their ability.

Feels like 2003-2004, but Iβm not confident coaches are like those staffs.
In regards to the roster, it feels similar.
I'm not expecting anything close to a 2004 outcome, so don't come for me! π«£π
More like this season 2003-like, and we get lots of changes to possibly make next year, like the 2004 season with a bunch of off-season changes.

This. Pry making VT relevant again only helps. Just keep winningβ¦
and playing good ball. The atmosphere, VT fan experience, home environment, etc. makes the brand strong. We continue with our current trajectory and have no reason to worry about being "left out."

Today is the last day. Opens again after spring ball. April for 15 days
Believe the argument that coaches like Pry have had is they wish it was after that the bowl season. Itβs a chaotic time right now in the recruiting world while coaching.

No knock on this philosophy. But then how could a DCunna predict upsets?
They've had to have done something before, before you can say they're capable of doing something? π€
Therefore, the βimpossibleβ is never possible! π€―

If the UL injury reports are true, I got VT winning 34-17.
I really think Louisville staff/players are underestimating VT and will be caught off guard by how good VT actually is. They'll rethink sitting guys vs VT.
The VT team we've seen the last two weeks have themselves a day today. Let's hope that continues.

Then both teams are bad by that logic. Duke is w/ injured Leonard
Me thinks both are mediocre teams. Duke barely winning at home to Wake.

4 years to reach Louisville is crazy. THIS team, THIS year, can beat UL now
Yet you're thinking 4 whole years? That's wild.
Drones is very young and already looks special. WRs are stacked with talent. Tuten is also special and a nice tandem who both return. As a matter of fact, the entire offensive starting lineup is able to return next year.
The DBs look good, with a bunch of talent coming in at corner and safety spots. LBs are all young besides Tisdale and developing in real-time. We're seeing them perform better weekly. DL is the only area I'm hoping the team can upgrade over time. Very senior-led at the moment.
There's no way it takes 3 to 4 WHOLE years. They can do that as early as next year, and there's a chance they even beat them THIS year. 4 years is not necessary to compete with a program like Louisville. NOW... if you're saying it'll take that long to reach the level of Florida State (CFP/Top 5 level program), then you have a real argument there. UL is not FSU-level good.

You think it'll take 3 to 4 more years to get to Louisvilleβs level?

If VT beats Louisville, Pry has officially brought VT all the way back.
Louisville is a complete team, and itβs at their place. A somewhat lesser version of VTβs game at FSU. Now play all 4 quarters and start fast, weβll have ourselves a **GAME**

Adjusting every series happens every single football game. See @2hhoop3
That explains an adjustment. It's simply reacting to what the offense is doing. Period.
It's not a fantasy, it's actually common/normal. Completely changing the defensive scheme or game plan would be a fantasy IMO.

If we see the same VT vs Pitt, it'll be competitive all 4 quarters.
The light came on vs Pitt. By that, I mean the team finally found an identity.
The coaches figured out who their QB is and finally committed to an offensive scheme that fits not only the QB but also what the program wants to be. Running the ball, having a dynamic threat at QB, and passing off play-action. Not to mention feeding Tuten the rock. I also enjoyed the rotation of Thomas getting in every few series. Giving Tuten a breather, it felt very Coach Hite-like.
Also, the LBs showed consistency with Tisdale + Lawson, who played their responsibilities well. This was against a team that loves to run the ball in Pitt. Marve/Pry didn't rotate guys, which is an encouraging sign. It means they're not a liability and can get a feel for the game the longer they're in. Similar to Bud Foster's defenses.
Last thing, the team's ability to run the ball is crucial for this game. To beat FSU, you need to control the clock. Keep their offense off the field. Not just because they're efficient at scoring points but also because VT's defense needs the time to adjust to whatever their offense is trying to do. What's often overlooked is the fewer snaps the defense gets. This means there's more time for coaches AND players on the sidelines to gameplan the next series. The sooner the defense adjusts, the more 3rd downs we'll see.
I hope this is a fight-it-out, slow, physical chess match vs FSU. I don't expect a blowout like I keep hearing from our very own VT people. VT has the talent and athletes to run with FSU. VT needs to put guys in the right spot to ensure they're running in the right direction. We'll find out on Saturday.

Yes, two QBs can play at the same time. Technically, it's just 2 athletes.
Doesn't really matter who exactly IS the QB. Anyone can get the ball from the center. So in that sense, both Drones and Wells can line up in the backfield.
Is it a good idea? Well, probably not. But technically, yes it can be done.

Thereβs a fair misconception that VT is a terrible football team.
I saw a Pitt post-VT game review on YouTube, and the Pitt guys talking felt embarrassed they loss to VT. How bad and terrible VT is. How VTβs only wins this year was vs ODUβ¦ and so on.
I canβt blame them. Add on only winning 3 games last year
So, I get why UVA fans think that. VT has a lot to prove not only to outsiders, but to themselves.
With the offensive scheme Bowen put out there vs Pitt, the offense limiting defensive snaps by winning TOP, and the LBs playing their responsibilities consistently (fits), VT is a much different looking team. May very well be night and day by the time they face UVA next month.
I saw a glimpse of something special with Kyron Drones. If he **PASSES** like he did on Saturday, VT could win the majority of their remaining games.
Yea, I said it!

Panthers looked terrible vs the Giants. I like Young tho, not the team
Theyβre in a rebuild year, which is unfortunate because theyβve been rebuilding for a few years now.

Not based on fact or actual knowledge. Itβs entirely an opinion.
VT may very well be bad, but 1-11 and thereβs no doubt whoever this person is (have no idea who he/she is) doesnβt like what VT is about or building.
This team will be better than 3 wins, easily. Now if you want my opinion, which is what Iβm sharing is, VT will win at least 6 games. 6-6 is the floorβ¦ in my opinion.

Your post must be directed at someone else because I love Pry.
Penn State is a great program, and I'm hoping he brings that big-time talent to VT. He's building the program the right way.
No bias over here, but I see it around here on TSL and social media too, I guess.
