Man… I just don’t feel good about what’s going to happen. I was optimistic
But now… I just don’t know.

I was watching the live show "Moen After Dark" on YouTube last night.
He had Flugaur on. And I have to tell you, I never seen Flugaur so melancholy. Between the Josh Pate tweet, the Illinois AD's comment about having to be on guard about trying to stay above the red line in the future, and the fact that someone reigned him in on his FSU to the B1G prediction, he was upset. Part of this is because he couldn't figure out what is happening, part of this was because of the Illinois AD's comment that there might actually be schools in the B1G that aren't going to make the cut (including his beloved Golden Gophers). And lastly, I think he FINALLY sees that this whole path that he's been reporting on for years as if it itself is sport, is actually highly destructive of the great game we all grew up loving.
So, you aren't alone.

time, VT is positioned to be under serious review to be added to P2 as are a few others as well all know, many twists and turns over next few years but really no need to worry about it, as Tom Petty says in one of his songs "most things I worry about never happen anyway"...

Even if VT does get invited. Lots of scenarios that could play out over longer run… Other colleges refuse to play them and interest fades over time outside those P2 alums, so it becomes just another boring sub-NFL pro league. Or, money bubble pops and inflated budgets need to be cut, rendering competitive advantage moot. Or it all turns out great for the money but your team is perpetually mediocre. Many scenarios and as someone referenced below with Tom Petty, we’ll all be gone over the long run anyhow. I spend way less time paying attention to college sports than I used to (only watch if VT involved) and I’m probably better off for it. Probably not the prevailing attitude on a sports board. ;-)

First season goes 3-9 (0-8 in conference play). First season is a mulligan after getting into the big leagues. 2nd season is 4-8. "Got to step up fundraising" is the call. Donors do what they can. 3rd season 3-9. After 3rd season, VT takes stock of what is going around. Mid-tier SEC teams are having constant fundraisers for coaches salaries, facilities, and NIL. Mississippi dedicates April 30th as "Ole Miss Hotty Toddy Day" where the top donators ride in floats and the parade entrance fee is $100, all going to NIL. Ole Miss athletes are in the crowd grinning with thumbs up as the floats pass by.
Who wants to live in the above scenario? Granted, it is fiction and the team may be kicking ass. But even with the added tv and CFP boost, it is going to be a constant struggle to keep up with other P2 schools.

watch Washington play Michigan, because they are in VT's "league". The minute they exclude 85% of college athletics, is the very minute that all of the schools fans not in that league, stop watching.
It's why Gonzaga fans watch the Big East, or G5 fans watch the big games. There will be exceptions of course, but if your school is excluded from the dance - not by competition, but because of money - then it just doesn't mean as much.

Within 5 years the P2 will be down to no more 16 teams totals. About half the P2 teams are going to say screw it.

and playing good ball. The atmosphere, VT fan experience, home environment, etc. makes the brand strong. We continue with our current trajectory and have no reason to worry about being "left out."

Win. Fill the seats. Love the school. Love the team. Be enthusiastic.
If that's not good enough for the P2 decision makers, then so be it.

I think Tuten graduates and Drones heads to the NFL if he has a good season. (I think Tuten is also NFL material.)
