i think the SEC (who goes big or doesn't go at all) takes FSU, Clemson, UNC, NC St, UVa and VT in one giant expansion bite. Here's why: 1) it keeps the BIG out of the south. All that would remain are private or smaller schools Duke, Miami and GT 2) It takes state politics out of the equation. The VA legislature wouldn't need to get involved as both large state schools are taken care of. college football. The SEC has been illustrating this on a weekly basis for the past 50 years. This is what draws eyeballs on a consistent basis. Sure, the occasional Ohio State/USC matchup will be a big one but it's local rivalries that brings in fans to the stadium and on television. It's infectious. The SEC has always "gotten it", which is why I believe they'll go big by bringing in all 6 southern, flagship universities. This locks down the south and grows their league into 2 of the top 10 market states in America.

i can't see them adding Miami, GT or Duke.

the SEC that we know today was built on regional matchups of state schools with rabid fan bases (Vandy being the exception). Looking at the teams they have added recently (Texas A&M, Missouri, Texas and OU), they not only check that box but also add new states and new markets. They don't have a history of adding big city, private schools like Miami. Could they make an exception? Of course but it would be contrary to everything we've seen. FSU fits that model better and i don't see them adding a third Florida team. Who else makes sense going forward? Big state schools with a rabid fan base and a good or new market. VT, UNC, NC St, FSU, Clemson and perhaps UVa. WVU would be a great fit but without the market.

decent option for them. I also don't think the SEC would mind/worry about that at all.

to me, it's almost more important for the SEC to grab both Virginia schools plus UNC to lock out the BIG from both of those states. If the SEC were to leave one of UVa/VT, the BIG could easily snatch them up with an NC school and claim both markets. If the state of Virginia is taken away, along with UNC, it's slim pickings for the BIG.

FSU, Clemson, UNC, Duke, UVa, VT and essentially cuts off the south from the BIG. Leftovers would be NC St, Wake, GT, Miami. Can't see the BIG going for them.
