Posting History (58)

I recall Andy Bitter saying Matt Campbell would be the first person he’d go

after when Pry was fired. I’d rather have Franklin, but seems like revisionist history to say Campbell wouldn’t have been on our short list. Only reason he might not have been was that no one thought he’d leave Iowa St.

UVA loses twice to Jacksonville State. You hate to see it 😉. Tough day for

most of the ACC - Hoos, Wake, BC (two losses to Liberty), Miami all bounced so far. GT and UNC look Omaha worthy. FSU still alive for now.

Whew. Not easy but Renfrow working his way out of trouble. Something about

pop flies for both our baseball and softball teams - never seems like the right players are fielding them

I’ll give credit where it’s due. Early on I doubted Szefc would survive the

season, but could tell they had some fight when they avoided the sweeps by GT and UVA (still GT’s only home loss I believe). Glad he and the team turned things around, and hope they make some noise in Cali.

They were talking about the exit velocity on a line drive by an ASU batter

in the first inning. Said any exit velocity over 65 mph is pretty elite in college softball. I imagine most of our batters can reach north of that.

Renfrow listed at #76 on ESPN’s list of top 150 MLB draft prospects. Hope

he keeps dealing at the ACC tourney and gets a chance to show out in the NCAA tourney.

I liked that he turned down High Point to go to UNC, and High Point made it

further in the NCAA tourney than the Heels. He had some big games towards the end of his VT run - I'm surprised he's not going somewhere with more playing time available.

VT men's golf finished 14th out of 15 teams at the ACC tourney stroke play

portion - didn't make the match play portion and won't be in post season play. Last ranking I saw had them #123 - almost 50 spots behind Elon (#75) and behind programs like Tarleton State, Eastern Michigan, and North Alabama to put it in perspective. I don't know what the short- or long-term solution is for the program, but if you've ever seen a video on the golf facilities at any of the SEC or top ACC schools you can understand the uphill battle they face. It's made worse by the fact UVA will likely be a national title contender and maybe the best freshman golfer in the country is from Blacksburg, but at Auburn. ** Edited by Sloth at 4/28/2026, 9:08:23 AM ** Edited by Sloth at 4/28/2026, 9:09:19 AM

VT women’s golf finished 8th in the stroke play portion of the ACC tourney.

The bad news is only the top 6 advance to the match play portion. The good news is they passed UVa in the final round 🙌. They’re currently ranked #39 which should make them a lock for the NCAA tourney - a bracketology I saw a few days ago had them seeded 7th of 12 teams in FSU’s regional.

That’s a pretty good win against a VCU team that had won 6 in a row.

Glad to see a 3 up, 3 down stress free 9th. We need to win a few ACC series to hopefully get some fan interest back.

Morehead St beat Louisville 13-5 and Charlotte run-ruled the Hoos 14-0.

It could be one of those years where I only find solace in the losses of other teams I don’t like. I think Scefz has his work cut out for him to keep his job.

Elon with a 3 point win over a solid (9-1) Richmond squad. Hopefully they

have our full attention this weekend, but last game before break is always a crapshoot.

Hadn’t checked on MJ Collins stats this year but he’s been an absolute star

at Utah State. 21 pts/game, 58% from the field, 47% from three, 92% from the line. I knew he could play but never thought he had those kind of numbers in him. Team is solid too…8-1 and 33 in the NET. They beat the Charlotte team we struggled with at home by 26 in Charlotte.

I’ve been lobbying for ODU QB but see Marshall is up 41-10 on them. I’d

still take him but how low have you fallen when Marshall with a new coach and about 50 new players is crushing a team we lost to by three scores?

I'm with you on Joseph. He made some big time throws against VT when we

had decent coverage, is really sharp with his read option fakes (one of several complaints I have about KD), and is a threat to take it the distance when he gets in the open field (see the two 75+ yd TD runs against Indiana this year or the long TD run against us last year). I understand waiting to see who the head coach is, but the QB is the most important player on the field and he's a good one plus has a couple of years eligibility.

Avdalas is not in ESPN’s initial top 60 prospects list for the ‘26 draft.

I’m surprised, although it’s considered a deeper draft than this year. I was ready to complain about an anti-VT bias but Lawal is ranked #58.

NAW playing really well tonight. Leading scorer for Minny so far.

I mentioned a few weeks back but I read he’s in line for a nice contract (4 yrs, $60 million estimated) this off-season.

Nickeil Alexander Walker wound up 6th in the NBA 6th Man of the Year vote.

Saw an ESPN article a few weeks back that said he was one of the best bargain contracts in the league, but wouldn’t be for long. Projected he’s in line for a 4 yr, $60 million deal this offseason. Wonder if he’d like to jumpstart funding for Cassell renovations 🤔?

Saw a list of bball prospects for 2027 and #1 is 16 yr old Baba Oladotun.

That last name sparked a memory and I wondered if he’s related to Ibrahim Oladotun that played for Tech, and yep that’s his Dad. I have no idea if he still has any ties to VT, although I did see we’ve offered. However, so has every major bball power. I can’t imagine we land him, but a fellow can dream, right?

Based on some of the ACC scores from this weekend, we're far from alone....

I know UVA's bullpen blew a late 4-0 lead to lose on Friday and then a 12-3 lead to lose 16-12 on Saturday. The one game they salvaged at Miami they won 14-11. NC State beat BC 18-16 yesterday. Not sure if it's all pitching issues or great hitting, but I'd look for plenty of slugfests around the league this year.

MY took over a team from Buzz with literally 4 players on it and knocked

off a good Mich State team, got a bunch of freshmen to a .500 record, and then (sans COVID) has extended a record of NCAA tourney runs to 5. I’m not saying he’s perfect but I’ve been going to games since I was 7 (‘77) and I can tell you I hope he’s our coach for 15+ more years.

Didn’t know Johnson Wagner was a Golf Channel studio host now.

And he’s still rocking the mustache. Hope it turns into a nice second career for him - he sounds pretty polished. ** Edited by Sloth at 1/12/2023, 10:51:40 PM

Next year's WBB recruiting class ranked #15 nationally on ESPN's list.

All four commits are ranked in their top 100. Nice to know there will be talent in the pipeline!

Yep, lots of hidden yardage lost on punts. Harvey’s first game returning

them so I was worried about drops, but he needs to at least fair catch and field the ones he can get to.

Cade Hunter 2 for 3 with his first professional HR last night (in just

his third pro game). Long suffering Reds fan here who’d love to see him make the big leagues one day.

VT women #11 in ESPN's latest "Way Too Early Top 25" for basketball

this coming year. This was an updated ranking after Soule transferred in. Still three ACC teams (Louisville #7, NC State #8, Notre Dame #9) ranked ahead of us and UNC just behind (#13). Obviously plenty can change with injuries or other issues, but hope this team lives up to the regular season rankings and does some damage in the NCAA tourney.

Aisha Sheppard’s pro debut: 15 minutes, 2-2 (both threes) and 6 points.

Aces won by 20. Don’t think you could ask for a much better start! Best of luck to her the rest of the year.
