I will get to who is playing this week, but first I have to explain the changes to the world golf rankings. The first major change is that everyone who makes the cut will get at least a fraction of the point. This will end the days of the logjam at the bottom of the rankings for players who are making tournaments, but never well enough to get points. That logjam is currently #1840 and this will better rank the players at the bottom of the rankings. The second major item is that there will no longer be minimum winners points for a tournament based on what tour the event is being sanctioned. So, in the past an Asian Tour event would award the winner 12 points no matter how bad the field is that week. What is being done now is that each player is given a point total based on their performance the last two years, and the points for a tournament will be based on the player rankings, no matter what tour is sanctioning event. So, this week the Korn Ferry Event awards 13, The European 8, and the Asian/LIV event 7. In my opinion this will really hurt the non-major European events which have always had lackluster fields and boost the Asian events that will now have more LIV players, such as Patrick Reed playing this week. Now onto the Hokies playing this week: Trevor Cone has the biggest week of his career this week. The Pinnacle Bank Championship is the final event of the Korn Ferry Regular Season. He is currently #20 on the points list. If he is #25 or above on Sunday, he will get a PGA Tour card for next year. In their press releases, #15 and above have clinched and #16-22 are "safe", but this event has advanced points and anything can happen, so he won't be able to relax until he finishes on Sunday. His best finish in three attempts is a T35, so he hasn't done well here in the past. Scott Vincent will be playing the co-sponsored Asian/LIV event in Singapore this week. It will feel like home with his brother Kieran, his Zimbabwe roommate Benjamin Follett-Smith and Hokie Sarit Suwannarut all in the field. He is currently #1 on the money list for these LIV branded "International Series" events. He is also #5 on the Asian Tour Order of Merit based mostly on his win at the last International Series event in London. We are starting to see some big name LIV players playing the Asian Tour events to keep their world rankings high, with the most publicized this week being Patrick Reed. Emily Mahar is on the second leg of an Epson Tour two-step in Indiana, this week in South Bend at the 54 hole Four Winds Invitational. She is currently #122 on the Money List.
