Is there a Titan Mercury connection, perhaps?
I know chance currently wrestles for TM, Jordan has wrestled for them in the past. I donβt have any insider knowledge, but that was my working theory.

Love the story about Calebβ¦
Needing a warm-up at last yearβs senior nationals. Lots of shout outs to our guys throughout his spot.

I think being able to finish his shotsβ¦
β¦Was his biggest concern. And he made amazing progress in that respect by seasonβs end. I think he has a huge ceiling, especially if we can shoot and finish his shots throughout the match.

Getting βSam Fisherβ type of depthβ¦.
That is, depth that is training for Olympic events⦠never hurts. Guys like that make us better and set the tone of the room. Having lots of guys training for various goals is never a bad thing.

The issue heβs got to show is whether he can effectively manage 184, itβs
Very possible he ends up at 197, which Iβm not sure he has the height for.

Kudos to the ACC for getting it right
Thatβs possibly the most exciting 2-1 match Iβve ever seen. Lots of mad scrambling.

I think putting AS at 133 and RB at 164 is a no brainer,,,,
if they can do so without losing their redshirt. Both matches would be good measuring sticks to whether or not they wrestle this year.

I honestly think Seidel has a shot at a NCAA title this year.,,
If thatβs the case, I say we let him roll. Championships donβt grow on trees and if heβs got a shot, it helps the program as a whole.

This is something Iβve tried to bring up for the last 2 yearsβ¦
Iβm not seeing the development in the upper weights. I think weβre getting the talent. Andy Smith was the exception, was not a marquee, recruit and developed well. However, we need to see our blue chippers in the upper weights progress. And we really havenβt to date.

I often think of the Navy Open...
.... and our discussions about Smith versus Howard. Going in, I thought Howard was the most talented of the pair and should get the nod at 197. After watching a day's worth of matches, I walked away believing that Howard had a higher ceiling and that Andy Smith was, by far, the better wrestler. Bottomline, Andy keeps proving me wrong.
Regardless of who starts at 197, consider this: Jimmy Mullin will certainly face Issac Trumble at 285 this year. I can't think of a better wrestler to help him solve Trumble than Andy Smith.

I posted this to 247
Andy doesnβt get enough credit for what heβs achieved at VT. He came in as a barely recruited 285 with some mat skills and plenty of baby fat. He made a pretty brutal cut to 197 and fended off a tough challenge from Cody Howard, despite an obvious lack of arm strength.
Itβs easy to write Andy off as a βlow-ceiling wrestler, but youβre missing the point if you do. Heβs somehow raised that low ceiling every year at VT. Heβs a smart wrestler who is one of the few to beat Issac Trumble twice (one was in FS). Heβs worked a ton to raise that ceiling. He got to the blood round in last yearβs NCAA tournament.
Iβm not saying that Sasso doesnβt have the higher ceiling, but thatβs sort of the point. Iβm positive that Andy is pushing Sasso in the room and in wrestle-offs. Donβt count out Andy Smith.

Giltner mentioned that both Wessler and Camden have worked hardβ¦
At the end of his SoS interview. He didnβt say that both would play, only that they were working hard. On Wessler he said that Pat couldnβt do a push up when he arrived and now does dozens weighted.

Robie was correct in the post-game interview ...we left a LOT on the table.
That should take nothing away from Bryce and Andy, as their contributions sealed the match. Going 0-4 in SV, says it all, especially since we pushed the action in three of those four matches (125, 165, 184). Bolen is back to his former self and looked the better wrestler through most of the match. Flat out, there wasn't anything left in the tank to win those matches. That said, great showings at 141 (he lost, but closed the gap), 157 and 197.

Bolen was better when his defense was weakerβ¦
I miss the Hunter of days past that would give up points and immediately get them back.

And he's doing a great job. Definitely knows the sport and the team...
Funny, too.
