Posting History (454)

The Steph Curry one hurts worse

Shane was probably going somewhere else regardless. A legacy and future NBA Hall of Famer *wanted* to play for us and we only offer him a chance to walk-on, poisoning our relationship with him and his VT legend father

If that is your criteria, you would have passed on coaches like

Bear Bryant, Lou Holtz, and Urban Meyer. Dabo Swinney didn't coordinate until after he was HC and quickly realized he couldn't do both. Head coaching requires a different skillset than coordinating. It is why Bud Foster was never offered the job.

We started our third team QB all season

we saved our actual first-team QB for the UVA game. They should feel honored we did that.

He should save it

and not do what most young guys do when they come into some money, as i don't think the NFL will offer him anything more than development league money, which isn't much.

Perhaps. A handful of plays go a different way

and we would be looking at a 9 or 10 win season, but a lot of teams can say that this year. IMO, one thing that has changed in cfb in recent years is there is more parity.

Boston isn't the worst destination

But i would prefer a different opponent. If we beat Tulane, they will just say we were supposed to, and if we lose...

I am starting to feel sorry for them

Their football program has been so beleagured for so long.

There is still some hope for you tonight

We are notorious for making zero halftime adjustments and paying for it in the second half.

"They seem quite optimistic to me

Maybe they do want to fight." Not a single UVA player was alive the last time they beat us at Blacksburg. Are their fortunes about to change? I still say not anytime soon.

Now, that is a true rivalry

Each team has a chance to win the game, and the fight after the game.

Gotta hand it to him and the Dawgs

Got punched in the face in the first half, but pulled ot together after that. I will still root agaist them every game left this season.

What i meant was they were underprepared

Because they were looking ahead. However, it looks like they will win regardless.

He had a great run in the late 90s and 2000s

Ten wins almost every season and one natty at UT. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and now he has to endure this ignominious ending to his career, being shoved out the door by a mediocre program.

Have you ever seen or read Game of Thrones?

In the story, there is a dynamic that develops between Ramsay Bolton and Theon Greyjoy. Ramsay captures, imprisons, and tortures Theon. Over time, Theon is so psychologically broken by Ramsay that he cannot disobey him, even when Ramasy is not around. Ramsay gives him a new name "Reek," because Theon smells so bad and Theon adopts the name "Reek," even telling others that is his name. In the VT-UVA football dynamic, we are Ramsay Bolton and UVA is Reek. We could run the Blacksburg High School team out there, and as long as they were wearing Hokie uniforms, UVA would lose to them.

Stealing Shane from South Carolina is a pipe dream

They love him the way we used to love Frank and they aren't going to let him go. Not that we could make a serious offer for him anyway.

You are assuming new coaches would turn it around

When in reality, it is a crapshoot. Also, for the Whit haters, the football program did deteriorate under him, but the basketball team improved (with the exception of this year).

Did he win at Texas outside of 2018?

They did fire him, after all. Keep in mind, this is Texas, where the expectation every season is ten wins and top-five recruiting classes.

If LSU is stupid enough to fire Kelly

There will be a scrum to hire him and we don't even have enough money right now to buy tickets to watch the scrum.

If it were 80 degrees with blue skies

We still beat them. They haven't beaten us at Lane since the 90s and that isn't going to change anytime soon.

pop has the physical tools for QB

If he improves in the decision making department, he could easily be a solid #1. If not, there is always the portal. Could probably get someone decent if we can dangle playing time right away.

A bit presumptuous of us to be posting the bowl schedule

When we haven't even qualified yet. But, it' UVA next and they are psychologically incapable of beating us.

That is the upside

we are in pretty much every game, but eventually, the fans expect to win those close ones from time-to-time, and rightfully so. One aspect of our staff that fans have been critical of is the inexperience of the coaching staff. I see it as a positive. They aren't stuck in their ways, because they have no ways to fall back on. That means they are open to learning new things (something you pointed out), which will hopefully make them better and the team better.

It has been done before (Bill Snyder)

but he is a very rare cat, and already was a successful head coach. Most people, once they step away from the rat race for any length of time, have no desire to get out of their hammock and go back. They lose their fire. This is probably true of Bud. The time to give him a chance was right after Beamer "retired," but it seemed the A.D. wanted to go in a different direction, likely due to his own vanity, and here we are.

Duke is having a great season

But still can't get more than rwo dozen people to show up.

Surprises me

That people are surprised we are the favorite. ** Edited by Casey at 11/23/2024, 7:09:44 PM

Has to be a real gut punch to go from 4-1

To not making a bowl. Almost easier to take when your team just sucks from the beginning

I don't see him In the NFL, but there is opportunity if he is willing to

Play in lesser leagues. Jerod Evans played for the Tokyo Gas Creators at one point. ** Edited by Casey at 11/23/2024, 3:46:31 PM

I would think if he was injured

We wouldn't have called so many running plays for him. Could be defenses had more film on him and could prepare better.
