I decided to give up on tech basketball at the end of the season.
Going to be hard to watch until there are major changes in the athletic department & that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Multiple overtime win vs UNC. I really hate UNC & the never ending drama of
that game was crazy. I was exhausted at the end!

Your last paragraph 100% agree with. I just don't see that happening and
that is why I feel the way I do. Unless that happens fan engagement is going to decline IMO. Fans want/need drama & hope or they will lose interest.

Thank you for your thoughtful response.
Are they possible becoming too much like the NBA, NFL & are they going to be able to compete in that space? In your example above the California fan is more likely to start rooting for an NFL team in my opinion. Are the big brands going to get all the TV eyeballs & effectively starve everyone else of TV money. Once that happens are donors going to still give like they do now & are fans going to come to games at current ticket prices? Once all of that starts going downhill it's going to be hard to stop. If all of that happens the top players in the top group will do well but so many others will lose out.
I have no answers as to what the solution is. But I do know that greedy schools & coaches has caused this problem. Just hope that some solution is made that treats the players well & doesn't in the end hurt the revenue side. Just believe that what is happening now isn't the solution. No way that Belichick should be getting 10 million plus & yet some players get very little or nothing. So many other things I could say but I better get back to work.

We will see. I hope that in real life you can discuss thing without being
such a condescending jerk. I love reading your thoughts on basketball because your insight in matched by none on this board. But on all other comments you are such an know it all *******. I really hope that you are much happier and pleasant in your real life. I will make sure to never interact with you again on this board. Sorry for ticking you off & have a nice day/life.

Regular season ratings are down. After this years tournament I would bet
that rating will start to drop there also. I would love to revisit this conversation in about 4 years. I will admit (and actually hope) that I am wrong. Not so sure that you would ever admit you are though. I understand that you think players should have the right to move every year, I get that. But it really makes it hard for us fans to know & root for the players, watch them develop etc. I used to know VT's roster in basketball & football. I couldn't name 25 players that will be on next years football team & not 5 on the basketball team. I know at least a hundred hokie fans that are any age from 15 to 75. Every single one of them feel the same way. Very few go to games anymore & most are 50/50 on watching games if they are on tv.

Wow. Such a deep comeback by you without any thoughts.
Are you one of those people who have no idea how things are paid for? Or do you think the government pays for it all. Or maybe you are just stupid? Gotta be one of the three.

More money for sure but viewership is starting to decline overall.
TV money trails behind rating by several years. Attendance is already declining & the under 30 generation is not watching sports at the level that over 30's did. I'm willing to bet in 3 to 5 years most college sports are going to be going the way of NASCAR. Still running but a shell of it's former self. I'll ask you the same question that I have asked previously. When was the last time any decision was made that cared at all about the fans? Players should have always gotten a piece of the pie but part of the price that they may have to pay is limits on movement etc. Free agency for all at the end of every year is absolutely crazy.

What??????
I assume you are just having fun but seriously do you ever see things from a fan's perspective? It's becoming less interesting every year & most that I know are finding other things to do. Most of us don't have a lot of money to throw around & there is a lot of competition for entertainment dollars.

The dynamics have changed so much so quickly. They might also want to
make sure to protect revenue also which seems like no one is concerned about. Colleges have taken advantage of athletes for years but somehow fans are the ones that are expected to pay for that.

A lot of comments about players and coaches. Notice that no
one mentions anything about the fans? Without the fans none of this exists. If no one cares there is no money for any of this. Players should have been paid years starting years ago and I'm not blaming the players but what is happening now is going to diminish the money pile greatly!

Nascar didn't have a transfer portal but they did alienate their fans just
like the NCAA is now. I agree that players should have been paid long ago but what is happening now is crazy. Total free agency every year among other things. I don't blame the players at all. This is on the colleges & the NCAA itself but it's still going to kill the entire system. IMO college sports are starting to compete with professional leagues & that isn't going to work very well. Do you think that maybe they are trying to blow up the system so they can go back to not paying the players at all again? Seriously think might be what is going on.

Unless he wins the job by the first game will he accept his role & keep
working? Or will he become a weekly locker room cancer? Hopefully this has humbled him some but I got my doubts.
Football Board

There will be a microphone in his face and he will be the story every week.
How much of a chance is it that he won't complain about not being the starter? He might not make the regular season roster unless he learns what not to say & learns how to not be a locker room cancer.

He isn't ready to be an NFL starter. Would you want the drama that is going
to come if he is a backup player? Going to be too much of a distraction to be worth it.

Wouldn't John Marshall also win the other states also? 6a & 5a.
Wouldn't be fair to them either especially since they are in another class enrollment wise. Agree that VHSL is complete garbage though. No way all John Marshall players live in JM's district. The player has to live with a guardian & it be their primary address if they transfer in.

If this might mean that streaming services (Netflix etc) could bury ESPN
then I am all in. I want to see ESPN homeless living in a cardboard box in the worst neighborhood in Connecticut!

Most of us were there also. Just saying it's getting hard to keep caring.
Are the crowds going to keep being there if most of the time we emotionally invest in a player & coach they leave/transfer? If we have a good football season this year and 10 plus players leave to go in the transfer portal are the crowds still going to be there? It's starting to look more & more like we are just going to be a feeder program for the P2.

It's really hard to retain enthusiasm and the ability to care at this point
And it's not just me. Most Hokie fans I know feel the same way.

He can guard the point. If Rice was still here he would have been perfect.
He could guard the 2 while Pedula could guard the one.

Not sure why more players don't choose that option.

I watched them scrimmage & he struggled to get a shot off.
He also looked like he was about 14. He grew taller & added weight before he went to college. Also remember that no ACC team offered him not just VT.

I agree. But the problem is those who think their opinion is fact & attack
anyone who disagrees with them. Don't get me wrong I love reading opinions.

GC isn't wrong. No one knew exactly what was going on & yet multiple
posters threw out their opinion like it was fact stating that Maddox had let the team down & quit on his team. Sometimes it is best to just let things play out. Will still be plenty of time to dump on the player after the facts come out!

BC is probably the only team in the ACC tournament that I think has no
chance of winning the tournament. BC is also the only team I don't think VT can beat that is in the tournament.

I really like Collins as a player. Got a feeling that
by year 3 he is going to be one of the best players in the ACC. Just something about him.

Point was seems like most players that play for Young
seem to have less or smaller holes each year. If that happens next year could be a really good year.
Men's Basketball Board

VT only returned 5 players from last year & only Mutts & Catoor are playing
the same role as last year. Then the Rice & Catoor injuries. With only Mutts not coming back I do think next year will be much better. How many of our current players bring a lot to the table but have holes in their games? Example Basile need to improve on defense & be tougher. Mike Young has a history of improving players year by year so next year could be a really good year.
