A few thoughts (Henson seed/Mekhi #1/Orine-Latona III?)
1. Friday's Blood Round is always intense but should be very busy for us. Five wrestlers possibly seeded in the 10-15 range. 2. Possibility of an Orine-Latona III in the round of 16. 3. Still think Caleb has a chance at the three seed. Conference finish and coach rank will hurt him, but H2H will help him versus Parco and wash against Arrington. Win % and RPI should help him. Need to check Wrestlestat tonight to compare common opponents and quality wins. 4. Still think Mekhi will be #1 seed. Starocci only has 14 wins so no RPI, isn't the conference champ, and lower winning % than Mekhi. ** Edited by VTDante at 3/12/2024, 2:35:53 PM ** Edited by VTDante at 3/12/2024, 2:36:41 PM

I would be very surprised if Mekhi isn't the number 1 seed
Star officially has 2 losses. I also probably agree with non official ranking services keeping Star above Mekhi. The All Star beating doesn't count for seeding, but it happened. I don't think Flo's rankings and results based seeding necessarily have to line up. At 149, I think Caleb and Jackson should be 2 and 3. Parco lost head to head and had a weird loss at Midlands. I'm worried his win over Lovett drops Henson to the 4 though.

I don't like the 149 potential seeding
A 4 seed with Gomez as the possible 5. Henson's quarter and semi would be tougher than the final. With wins over and a better season than the #2 and #3 guys. I do think conference results should have extra weight to them, with Jackson's win being more meaningful than Caleb's, but looking at the rest of the season, I think Caleb should still be above him. ** Edited by Hikinghokie at 3/12/2024, 1:44:40 PM

He is going for the title so he has to beat the best to get there...

Well hell, just make him the 32 seed - get the #1 out of the way early.

I think he's capable regardless
But even if you give him 60-40 odds against the best guys, it would be a tall task to take out a hypothetical draw of Gomez-Lovett-Arrington back to back to back. A 3 seed would be a lot more comfortable.

Caleb has beaten a ton of ranked guys this year.
His RPI & Coaches is very high. It would be criminal if that awfully officiated ACC final outweighed everything else. Conf finish is only 10% of the criteria. Not a big diff between 1&2. And just Top 5 guys - Caleb 2-2. Beat Parco & Arrington. Lost to Lovett & Arrington (officially at least). Arrington is 1-1. Both vs Caleb. Arrington has 4 losses on the season. Lost to D’Emilio at CKLV then he MFF out - tagged with losses to Gabe Willochel & Nash Singleton. Note he pummeled both Willochel & Singleton earlier rounds at CKLV. And lost to Henson. Common opponent also comes into play. Henson 1-0 vs D’Emilio. Arrington 1-1 (he did avenge earlier loss). Also opponents strength of record is a factor and Henson picks up Lovett & Parco (Arrington does not). I think you’ll see Caleb as the 2 or 3. Lovett, Caleb/Parco, Parco/Caleb, Arrington the probs Austin Gomez as the 5. All those guys are absolute studs and capable of winning it all. Plus the next 4-5 guys are all studs too. Chance Lamer, Logan Gioffre, Ty Watters. Tyler Kasak, Swiderski etc. Henson also has wins over Lamer and Gioffre this season. Arrington does not. Overall win % Caleb is 25-2 (Arrington is 18-4). Another factor in seeding criteria.

Agree. I think Henson gets the 3 seed.

I think he gets 1 or 2

That would be even better!

Zero chance he gets the 1
With Lovett winning his conference tournament.

True but I think there is almost zero chance Henson drops to #4 as well.
But I am rarely correct, so there is that. ** Edited by Hokie Flyer at 3/12/2024, 3:44:20 PM
