Protecting Athletes and the Schools
Maybe. You have a race to recruit these kids early because the other schools were doing it. But trying to project a kid wrestling at 126 in high school and he hits campus freshman year at 165 isn't realistic. With such a limited scholarship quantity, schools need to prioritize having kids at the proper weights and filling in the lineup. The shift to 5 for 5 is only going to increase that need as the recruits are not going to be as willing to sit out a year so the coaches can manipulate the lineup year to year. I think it should actually help the kids, let them focus on school and improving over their high school career and leave recruiting until the summer after junior year.
