Allowing NCAA athletes to gamble opens a pandora's box. You never know when

when a friend will throw a game (or point shave) for a buddy. Say Tony Cassiopi is friends with the Iowa QB. Tony talks to him before the game and says he bet against Iowa to not cover. Said QB could potentially throw a few interceptions to keep a game close. Disclaimer: Not saying any of this happened at all. But it is not a far fetched scenario by any stretch to have this kind of situation. School's aren't making direct revenue from gambling sites. TV is. NCAA has little say as to what advertisers TV can/can't sell to. Additionally, Student athletes are bombarded with anti-gambling presentations, messages, and behavior contracts throughout the calendar year. Can't say that they weren't aware. This one is on them.

Athletes friends don't have to be athletes, that scenario is always there

It seems pretty reasonable to ban people involved in sports from betting.
