I feel like Mekhi's win is a better example of the downside.

If you score a takedown early in a slow-paced match, you're up 4-2 early in the 3rd assuming both wrestlers go down and escape. You have *two* "free" stalls without risking a loss unless you're taken down. You also have the opportunity to risk a third while still getting OT if you happen to get called a third time. Mekhi didn't fully milk that setup against Kharchla, but he could have.

so far I HATE the 3-point takedown. Catka match is the perfect example why

I am not a fan of the change either, but I am a bit of a purist…. I just

Catka lost because he didn’t wrestle smart
texashokie1 11/13/23 11:02 PM ET
I know why he lost and you're right. He didn't wrestle smart late. My point
HokieToph 11/14/23 07:07 PM ET
Catka's mat wrestling put him in a position to win and he gave it away

Not being very bright**

Doesn’t matter
Rokie08 11/13/23 09:24 PM ET
Feldman let Catka up on an optional start. Catka didn’t work for the escape**
TartanHokie 11/13/23 05:59 PM ET
still doesn't matter. Catka was up 2-0 after riding feldman the full 2 mins
HokieToph 11/13/23 06:10 PM ET
Agree with your comments. It did seem that the ref on Friday called
ChEHokie78 11/13/23 06:25 PM ET
Catka didn’t lose the match because of the new rule.
TartanHokie 11/13/23 06:24 PM ET
I like the added value to the takedown
Hikinghokie 11/13/23 04:13 PM ET
I agree with this take. I like the new 3 pt TD.**
Hokie Flyer 11/13/23 06:14 PM ET
It's an easy argument to make that getting near fall points are much harder
HokieToph 11/13/23 05:44 PM ET
I’m ok with three point TD as long as they make a reversal three as well
CTDad 11/13/23 04:20 PM ET
I would argue a wrestler who earns an escape and riding point
HokieToph 11/13/23 05:47 PM ET
What if the escape was from an optional start?**
TartanHokie 11/13/23 06:01 PM ET
Doesn't matter. Catka was up 2-0 with 9 seconds left and lost on one move**
HokieToph 11/13/23 06:13 PM ET
Riding for 1 plus minute is not a move.
Hokie Flyer 11/13/23 06:17 PM ET
If that were Caleb Henson, you'd likely think differently.
HokieToph 11/14/23 06:59 AM ET
Henson would never get taken down with 10 seconds left and no stalling
donjfs3 11/14/23 11:55 AM ET
Agreed**
TartanHokie 11/13/23 06:29 PM ET
I very much agree here**
Hikinghokie 11/13/23 04:33 PM ET
This just reiterates my original point
HokieToph 11/13/23 05:46 PM ET
It was the only offensive scoring move the entire match. Feldman earned it.**
Hokie Flyer 11/13/23 06:18 PM ET
Agreed**
TartanHokie 11/13/23 06:29 PM ET
Feldman earned it. Catka should have stalled out the last 45 seconds or so
