Per the NCAA, there were 725 players that entered the portal last year and 619 in 2024.
The 2026 portal window closes on June 22, but players can sign with schools long after that date

. . . 3 players per team. Not as dramatic as the raw # seems. There have always been transfers. The portal has just formalized the process.

"In hindsight, as the emotions die down and logic begins to kick in (sorry, I’m a Virgo). Florida State softball might have made the smartest decision by letting its two best players walk. Here’s a thought. FSU never made the Women’s College World Series with Isa Torres or Jaysoni Beachum on its roster.

An interesting take, for sure.
And, to his point, FSU did sign a big-time hitter, ASUN Player of the Year, Nicole Edmiaston on Friday. She was ASUN Offensive Player of the Year, ASUN All-Tournament Team, and First-Team All-ASUN after hitting .453 last season with 23 HRs.

reasonable take. It is one thing to invest in a pitcher with the potential to control a game from the circle but, an entirely different matter to expect one or two position players to do the same.
