How great was Angela Tincher; example numbers…I’ve lost count
1) Michigan won their Regional scoring 26 runs in 3 wins; Tincher held them to 1, 0, 1 runs 2 total in 3 games in Supers
2) vs 1 seed FL she Kd 19 Gators in 9 complete innings. Florida scored 2 in the 9th to win 2-0 to eliminate us from WCWS

themselves by googling her collegiate stats and studying them both in total and by year. There are so many eye popping numbers that it is really difficult to pick just one or two, however, 2149 strikeouts in her career and a career ERA of 0.78 are as good as any place to start and are buttressed by the single game accomplishment of the "Miracle on Dirt" where she no-hit the United States Women's Olympic Team. That game is called an exhibition, and it was, but, I am confident that after one time through the order she had the Olympians' attention and focus.

Had the bats that we have now :)
It feels like our team is getting closer and closer to earning a spot in the World Series.
That’s going to be a really fun trip to OKC when the time comes.

Angela lost a total of 17 games during her junior and senior games. In TEN of those losses, VT did not score a single run and in four more, they only scored ONE. If we have any offense at all, VT would have probably won the national title.
During her senior year, Angela was 38-10. In 7 of those losses, VT failed to score a single run and in 2 others, the Hokies scored just one run.
Here's her 10 losses that year:
2/10 #21 Missouri, 2-0
3/1 #8 Arizona 4-3 (12 innings)
3/7 #2 UCLA 1-0
3/8 Notre Dame 2-1
4/19 FSU 2-0
4/27 UNC 2-0
REGIONALS
5/18 #14 Tenn 7-1
SUPER REGIONALS
5/29 #6 Michigan 1-0
WORLD SERIES
#4 Texas A&M 1-0
#1 Florida 2-0 (9 innings) - the game was tied 0-0 with VT batting in the bottom of the 7th when Erin Ota lead off the inning and reached 3rd on an error by the Florida center fielder. Florida walked the bases full with no outs, but VT failed to score
And here are her 7 losses during the 2007 season, her junior season (she was 38-7)
2/25 #13 Michigan 1-0
3/10 Ohio State 4-0
3/14 South Carolina 2-1
4/4 Longwood 3-2
4/22 Maryland 5-4
REGIONALS
5/19 #21 Ohio State 2-1
5/19 Cal State-Fullerton 1-0

.268 with 34 HRs in 2007 and .240 with 21 HRs in 2008. I saw that we won the ACC tourney in 2007 with AT winning all 4 games and giving up a total of 1 run over 4 games. Poppin's it wouldn't have raised much money back then if you tied gifts to offense.

Nowadays we buy in bulk, back then we would have paid more for limited supply.

she literally gave her team a chance to win almost every time she stepped in the circle and that includes her freshman and sophomore years as well. She was the literal definition of a workhorse and even hampered by a leg injury her freshman year she produced. Her frame while not slight was not prototypical of a pitcher but, her durability was one more amazing attribute. She was a marvel and, at least in my opinion, on VT Mt. Rushmore of athletes, all sports(revenue and non-revenue).

the ball. Was VT recruiting "different" types of hitters/players?

and only head coach before Pete. He replaced Ron Reynolds that managed the Club team prior to 1996 (Im 75% sure on this - and Ron's daughter was a club team catcher I believe). Ron's a great coach btw. Scot was working in the laundry room for athletics when they posted a need for a softball head coach and since he played baseball at ETSU - he put in for it and got it! Hows that for down the hall hiring!
We had the Rhodes sisters, Va, fast as lightning, hit 200. We had new good non-va blood come in for AT's soph year with Mariconda, Savre, and Ota. and we solidified our OF with Va products Everhart and Stolle. But they just were not Elite hitters, they were Average D1 hitters. Very decent on Defense though! course AT KO'd many! K Hoffman was a great catcher catcher - nobody ran on her and she was a DOG leader! Married our fullback!
Fun fact - I went to a hitting clinic Scot gave to some peeps in Salem and it was not great IMHO...I recall heading home thinking - that explains a lot...
Pete and co. has brought us to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL and I believe if we had AT now - we would be in the CWS for sure!

with AT pitching. back then you could get behind the fence at homeplate and see the pitches.
It was incredible to watch her riseball hop! Then she would throw the occasional drop and batter would miss by ~2 ft or just take it and she could throw it for strikes too!

great view for her movement. AT could work the entire square, up, down, inside, out. She had good velocity, not overpowering but, coupled with the movement and location devastating. Kelsey Hoffman was really good behind the plate and they were a great battery tandem. Nice history lesson above as well. One question, I thought Kelsey married VT punter Nic Schmitt(he did look like a fullback)?

And remember the program wasn't started until 1996.
It was still relatively young and didn't have all the bells and whistles.
