pass balls/wild pitches. I believe we may be on the wrong side of those stats

Although we’re top 10 in fewest hits allowed we’re not in the top 30 for WHIP

Now that VT has established itself as a "regular" in the polls and postseason, which of the former VT teams do you think this team matches up very well against (assuming they were to play in a best-of-7 series)?

be a great question for QCP to get him involved on the softball side. (Also, to rescue him from the dregs of baseball stats this year!)

in softball, then that is often enough to leave there with a W. However, if a team is a more dominant hitting team than a team with a very dominant pitcher, could that team get enough hits or runners on base to steal a game or even the series (even if the series turned into a pitcher's duel)? Basically, I am curious about the parts of the picture the stats can't paint. The parts in between the lines (or baselines) that is open to interpretation.
For example, most people's immediate reaction might be any roster with Tincher on it would win the series every time. However, if you peel back the layers and look more closely, then the series might be closer to 50-50 because the current team does a lot more overall things "better" than any of those teams. It doesn't change what those teams accomplished. This exercise can give fans a different lens to view the current team because it gives them another reference point for comparison purposes.

1 super star, the issue, only a few true super stars in the game.
2 aces is also really good! Our beloved Hokies in 2026.
3 really strong pitchers - Maybe UVA, anyone else?
After that, no way I see a multiple wins in NCAA like formats.

Softball is one of those sports where the same pitcher could start multiple games in a row and be just as effective in each game. Hokie fans probably remember Tincher or Rochard taking the circle for multiple games in a row and the rest of the team doing just enough to win the game and/or series. If the program (as a whole) has greatly improved from those days, then is "just enough" still good enough to beat the current squad? Or would Tincher's and/or Rochard's teammates have to step up their game too because they would likely need to score more than 1 or 2 runs to win a game.
Given enough time has probably passed since Tincher took the circle, it might even be fun to do a panel debate on this topic. Create a phantom tournament, call it the VT Arthur's World Series for fun, where various past (and present) VT teams are placed in the same structure as the Softball College World Series. Then debate (as a panel) how the games could play out to see who the group thinks would take the crown. It could be a fun exercise to allow fans to appreciate the present while still remembering the past especially if people never got to see some of these former players in action.

Opposing teams aren't generally on base to where VT can turn one

I like testing the scoreboard and trees, and playgrounds and adjacent streets. A direct hit on a vehicle will be donated as a 3fer HR, with a grand slam counting thusly as a triple double. Happy hunting, ladies!
