To give another capable pitcher an opportunity to start in a ‘big game’ ….ie gain experience.
Or it’s always possible that coach had a different pitcher in mind originally, but had to audible based on the pregame illness / stomach bug that was going around.
Who knows. Let’s just get the two wins!
