Liberty's "brand" allows it to access players with a certain belief system -- similar to BYU and Grand Canyon -- who are the cream of that crop. Top-tier facilities and a personality like Dot's helps attract players, as well. I'd also argue Liberty does a great job with player evaluation and development. I was at the entire Conference USA Tournament and some of their best players there, and all season, were transfers, as pointed out above: KK Madrey (LSU), Paige Doerr (Oregon State), Savannah Woodard (Alabama), and their ace, Elena Escobar (North Alabama). They also plucked Rachel Roupe out of high school in rural Maryland, their starting catcher from rural East Tennessee, a couple contributors from Delaware, etc. As a public school without a national name brand and great financial aid for out-of-state students, I do wonder if that hamstrings VT a bit when searching further afield. found in 3A / 2A schools. In the larger schools, those athletes are trending more to lacrosse and soccer than softball. Think of the players that came from those classifications just to us. Rochard, Lemley, Davis, Repko, Dail (certainly not an exhaustive list there are plenty more). Also, think about what went to some of the other schools Megan Good (JMU), Millie Thompson (Clemson), Kiersten Roadcap (JMU), Jaylin Ford (JMU). The fact that someone comes from Northern Virginia for softball doesn't necessarily mean they are good. I would say you could field a pretty good team over the years just recruiting Virginia's middle classifications in high school.

We ve signed quite a few of them and missed on quite a few of them (Sandercock and Valerie Cagle just to name some). I think we recruit a good area that we have legitimate shot at landing the kids. We re not gonna land top talent in SEC country or California very often.

We have the right players; just have to win the right games The only difference between us and LU is they won the right games vs a program that falters in postseason historically. Bama doesn’t falter in regionals…they are always better in postseason than regular season. It’s how they’re built
