I am not a person that believes that one play wins or loses a game but
I don't see how you argue against that play absolutely winning that game. Who knows how many runs they score if that doesn't happen. That play is gonna be broken down, dissected and posted about on this board for a while. I agree with all who say that Lyla shall be in left field for every game until she exhausts her eligibility. I am amazed that Lyla knew that the runner on second had took off and had actually rounded 3rd base. Watch Rohs, in the middle of the play, she looks back at second base then immediately points where to throw. Then Castine is in her throwing motion before she step on the base. Then Chatfield goes low to catch the throw. As Hokie fans we will break this one down for a while but for fun, go look at after the play. The 1st thing is Chatfield spiking the ball. She knew it was something special. Then Sophie bascially doing a lap around the infield jumping and celebrating. Finally near the dugout all the players mobbing Lyla. What a play. I played baseball for 15 years, softball for another 10, coached for quite a while and somehow, someway that was the 1st triple play I had ever seen live or as it happened. Brings to mind Merlin Olsen when he would say "Lord, you can take me now, I have seen it all."
Yesterday I second guessed Pete on the pitching change. Today I would thank him for having his players situationally aware. Watching that play over and over show that these women are being coached well and have been coached well. Great, great win.
