Probably the highlight of my HS playing career was a triple play in the b6 of a HS tourney game we led by 2 runs at the time Runners on 2&3 was playing 1st base. Hard Grounder to 2B our 2B holds runner at 3rd and throws to 1st for 1, runner at 2nd goes almost all the way to 3rd not realizing runner on 3rd was retreating. After catching ball at first I ran behind the mound from first to cut off the runner from returning to 2nd; ran him toward 3rd; runner at 3rd tried to deke me while runner returning to 2nd thought he could dodge me to get back to 2nd…but I caught him as he tried and my back was turned to runner on 3rd who broke for home; I spun and threw to catcher. So 2 putouts and an assist is my triple play story Triple plays almost always come from baserunning mistake unless in baseball you get the hard shot right to 3B bag who tags then goes 5-4-3 Today’s play was one of the most memorable plays in Hokie sports history to be quite honest.
