The idea that I [should] trust my eyes more than the stats, I don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know that the rabbit's not in there. --- Billy Beane On average, everyone has hard luck outs that would otherwise contribute to better statistics... and a few "ground balls with eyes" that do the opposite. Given a significantly large sample size, LUCK tends not to skew statistics very much. Do I think that there are other stats (that aren't readily available in college softball) that would be better measuring sticks (like HHB%) than the old-fashioned traditional stats that we keep... absolutely. People tend to unnecessarily justify the stats they care about, dismiss the ones they don't, or adjust based on "exceptions" - as if those only occurred for the player that they're making an argument for/against. In general, stats only lie when people are trying to lie (not an accusation in this case, just a quote of my own that I live by). BTW... pretty sure Mazz hit a couple of HRs in the fall. Definitely just 1 in the spring season. Her AB/HR ranking was 12th of our 19 this spring, so helps to make an argument that she might have been somewhere in our top 15 hitters.

VTChip 05/23/24 12:42 PM ET
Chip: Do you know if McManus is now healthy? I know she was . . .
MidloHokie 05/23/24 08:47 PM ET
Unfortunately, they would never see PT with the talent in front
ancient alien 2018 05/23/24 06:58 PM ET
Is Masters still on the team?
GCHokieof91 05/23/24 01:16 PM ET
Sadly, Maci Masters has announced that she has entered the Portal

That stinks but I definitely cheer them on in whatever they decide to do
RVAHokie05 05/23/24 12:51 PM ET
We have 2 coming in and I would expect a portal person perhaps (more...)

Quick question, Mr. Chip. Is a 60mph fastball a bit slow for a prominent

It's very tough to be an effective P4 pitcher if you can't throw 63+.

Agree on Mazz - just added more info to my answer above
VTChip 05/23/24 01:51 PM ET
Given Tech's need for improved pitching, I would like to see Mazzarone
dallasvt 05/23/24 02:14 PM ET
I don’t think hitting takes that much away from pitcher development

A very respected college hitting coach says...

In baseball a starting pitcher can go every 4 games? In softball
