EVERYBODY on the team can hit. Yeah, yeah... Coach Pete recruited her as a hitter... Cagle and others (who we aren't talking about) have done both successfully... like everybody on our team she was probably the best hitter on her HS and travel teams. She even hit a home run (14 players did). The point is that the NCAA limits the amount of time a player can practice and she needs to use almost all of those hours pitching (unless she gives that up and becomes a position player). This absolutely ISN'T a slam on her. With the work that she was putting into her pitching, she just didn't keep up with the other hitters on the team. With just 26 ABs for the season, obviously the sample size is small and her performance can't be judged by raw numbers, but if you look at the averages... AVG - .192 (18th/19) OPS - .575 (15th/19) SLG - .308 (15th/19) OBP - .267 (18th/19) We need her to be a great pitcher. We have plenty of great hitters. From what we can tell from the stands, she seems like a great kid and a great representative of the VT brand, which is more important than anything in the grand scheme of things!
