Grein just wanted to be the alph. The UCLA regional may have been the last straw for Grein. For whatever reason the coaches decided to use Lemley for the majority of innings. Being that Lemley was a junior and Grein a sophomore, it made sense at the time. If their is a negative element on any bench in sports its like a cancer. It eats through the team like a wildfire! I have experienced it in my many years of coaching multiple sports, but mainly softball. I noticed a funk on the team that was present during the entire season, it just wasn't at the UCLA regional. It cost of victories and it cost us confidence when hitting the field each game. Last year's Pittsburgh was Syracuse, with frightening simularities. We lost two of three at Syracuse, but the next weekend Florida State comes in and loses. This year Duke lost one of three before we arrived. Sometimes a loss can wake up a very good team. It showed in the first game Friday gangbusters, but overall the pitching was what cost us at Pittsburgh. Pitt's senior starter in game 3 entered the game with a 5 era, and had given up 23 earned runs in the games leading up to Friday's loss. Our pitchers and coaches need to regroup and move forward. Pitt should already be in the rearview mirror, good teams and good coaches instill that in their players and prepare them for what's ahead of them, not what's behind them!
