VT Board Visitors after action public release
On the VT website, there was an article of the proceedings from the recent BOV meeting. This narrative and tone is written by VT public affairs, and has a synopsis of the BOV meeting and comments by President Sands. Sands in his comments mentioned this "Sands also commented on the rapidly changing landscape of college athletics and noted that the university continues its work to position itself for the strongest possible future in athletics given the many factors beyond the university’s control." I know most of you will say he said nothing.... probably all he could say... my observations They did have a closed door meeting with the Sub-committee that includes student affairs (and athletics is covered in this area); but at the same time there was absolutely nothing on the agenda about realignment, but VT auditors completed the required audit of the VT athletic department. there was no comment and no problems. However, to have President Sands saying something, in this rhelm, indicates they are on-top of this the best you can be.

In Sands I trust
He has supported the AD, and understands its function as marketing/outreach/PR for the university. He's the one that pushed to change the uni logo to the modified flying VT. He will make sure we have a seat a the table, from his time at Purdue he has lots of Big 10 contacts. IMO we are closing in on AAU anyway, imo we are better suited to move to the big 10 than UVA would be. Sands efforts to grow VT have NOT gone unnoticed in the college world. People see is is furthering the work of those before him to turn VT into a powerhouse. The amazon/nova stuff was a HUGE shot across the bow that VT will be a major player moving forward.

"given the many factors beyond the university’s control"
This line is concerning. Sounds like VA politicians and UVA are trying to hold us back.

I take it more as
a combination of: 1. We don't control who wants to expand where and with whom 2. We don't control the interests of TV networks 3. We don't control the outcome of FSU/Clemson vs. ACC in the courts

but the key point.. he didnt have to say anything
That was intentional.... The BOV didn't address it anywhere in the notes and minutes, but Tim wanted t make a statement.

how do you perceive that...
Could be just, Networks and conferences are refusing to deal with the Commonwealth. Well you lose the market buddies

I am confident VT higher ups are doing what they can. Not many/any schools
have benefited from realignment as much as VT - going back to entry in BEFC Although many of the smart people who shepherded VT athletics to their current status are no longer at VT, I am hopeful the current admin is mindful of this asset. They know how to play this game. This gives me hope

We are not asleep at the wheel
like we were when the ACC offered BC Syracuse and Miami. That doesn't guarantee a good result- just that we are very aware.
