I hope the Virginia Carolina 4 go to the same Conference, but if they split
that’s entirely possible.

FWIW - ACC speculations
So much happening right now. Alright, FSU has filed a new response today against the ACC in Leon County Court - Florida. It is accusing the ACC of deception and so much in more crooked claims, etc. It's getting ugly. The short of it reads that FSU has announced they are leaving officially through this response verbatim. FSU will be out before their first game in Ireland this season, they will finish the 2024 schedule as is but possibly not as an ACC member. I don't know what that could mean exactly in terms of ACC Championship Game stuff. We all have sources. Most of the time even the sources speculate so take everything with a grain of salt. But here it goes..6-8 teams are going to bail from the ACC - headed to a P2 destination. FSU, Clemson, UNC and ND are gone. But others are now in discussion based on what FOX is asking for. We'll see. But I suspect VT higher ups should be talking and thinking P2 now. Fingers crossed. I want this to be correct. Again, as always there is so much talk...just sharing what I get told at the network levels. ** Edited by INSIDE99 at 3/28/2024, 4:33:51 PM

What will make the Network TV audience grow? Especially in FOOTBALL and 🏀!

ND and the ACC
When the ACC loses x amount of teams the NBC contract loses too much value. They may well try to stay Independent but it wont be with the ACC schedule tie in.

Not a Problem
FSU will not be good enough to make the championship game this season . Their best season for the next 20 years was last season. Welcome to mediocrity my Native American friends.

Just because UVA and VT are SILENT, doesn't mean they are not working it
First, both VT and UVA, are not drama programs like FSU, we govern universities and the Commonwealth deliberately. We have national leaders leading our 2 flagships and work VERY Closely together. You can have discussions without joe q public need to know. They do that all the times in R&D with corporate partners. VT and UVa (and Miami) are a little different than the rest. They are members of the ACC executive council and really are the official governance the ACC with Jim Phillips and the lawsuit. Dr Ryan of UVA is the Council chair. The executive council term expires in May 2024 during conference spring meetings (which will be interesting). I think all remain stoic and just ride this then. Also, if FSU files for dismissal, the ACC can officially do things to block them out. Be interesting how the 'official response is. (also I like to see the new executive council is. I bet that none of the 7 are on the board. Then they can 'move on/

Everybody does it theory
Every ACC member BOT has been planning realignment behind closed doors for far longer than the public knows. Watching UNC complain from the beginning while they had been planning the same is common. VT no different. FSU is out before 2024 kickoff regardless of what any court decides. Neither side will be following by-laws anymore.

Y - I’ve mentioned this a few times before
When the Exec Council terms expire in May 2024, take note of whom the next Exec Council schools are…

Why not UVa to SEC and us to B1G?

A good question. Why not Arizona to the SEC, and ASU to the BIG? They
have a similar sized market, new States for both conferences, AAU status, and unlike Virginia and NC, they do not have the competition of other FBS programs, or overlapping of markets with other teams. I understand that this is an ACC board, but sometimes I get the feeling that you guys are in an Atlantic bubble, and discount some very good programs and markets that have not received an invitation to the P2. You are in competition with those programs, not just the ACC programs.

Mountain time zone is irrelevant
The Eastern time zone, where VT, UVA, UNC, NCSU are located, accounts for almost 49% of the population of the US. The Central time zone is next with 29% of the population of the US. Next is the Pacific time zone with about 17%, followed by the Mountain time zone, where Arizona and ASU are located, with 6.5%. By the time that the Mountain time zone starts playing games, close to 1/3 to 1/2 of the tv households in the US are going to bed.

There is one significant difference...
The programs in the B-XII are no longer bound to a GOR. The P2 has already evaluated them and left them for dead (for now anyways). There is no question that some ACC teams (maybe FSU and Clemson) are next in line once the ACC GOR is broken. I think we understand that after the ACC jewels are raided, the remaining teams are all in the mix with the B-XII teams. I think the discussion centers on the ACC teams now because that's the next move. ** Edited by gman86 at 3/28/2024, 11:49:32 AM

The Big 12 has a Grant of Rights, they even gave the ACC their language to
build their Grant of Rights. Now the Big 12’s is until 2031 and the ACC is until 2036, at least in the contract, but they have a Grant of Rights. They were losing so many teams they were the first to be forced to come up with one. Where did you get the information the Big 12, doesn’t have a Grant of Rights? ** Edited by Stech at 3/28/2024, 12:57:27 PM

From Texas and Oklahoma
I will admit that I don't follow the timeline closely. All I know is that Tex and Okie got out. I presume any other B-12 school with a P2 offer could do the same. No ACC school has found the exit path yet. It's clear that if there is one, FSU would be long gone by now. That's the difference I am speaking to. Did the B-12 GOR get put in place (or renewed) after the exodus and expansion? If so, that supports my statement that the B-12 teams have already been picked over once :)

Texas and Oklahoma paid to get out a year early, then the B12 did 1 to 2031
The biggest thing here is that FSU revealed that ESPN (ESPN was livid about it) has as an opt out of the TV contract for 2027 and they could announce as early as this February they aren’t renewing. The more schools that sue the ACC to leave, the more many people believe they will not renew. Meaning the GOR in the ACC could die within months. I think if UNC sues, it’s over, they are the founder/leader of the ACC. They are the glue that holds it together, and they publicly supported Clemson and to some degree FSU.
wwhokie1 wwhokie1
That is the big question. If ESPN ops out, what happens to the GOR?
I would assume the GOR does not automatically dissolve. But it would certainly give Clemson and FSU a much stronger position in their lawsuit. And the fact that ESPN can opt out, is pretty strong ammunition for their lawsuit regardless.

It’s not in ESPN’s interest to opt out
Lose big name schools to the B1G and B12. Lose ACC programming. Pay extra to the SEC, for what dropping a few lesser schools like maybe Duke, Cuse and BC?
S
Stech
I don’t see how it can’t dissolve if there is no ESPN renewal. The Conf
has no TV contract for the GOR, I believe it won’t even go to court if that happens.

They got out 1 year before the media contract expires. There was
compensation for the missed content. Their exit was timed with the media contract initially, but remember, they were exposed - only then did they announce. Like USCLA, their "negotiations" were kept secret as they continues to vote down expansion candidates. The B12 GOR is tied to the media contract, and always has been.
H
HouClone
The Big 12 has a GOR which kept OU and Texas in it for 2-3 years
The Big 12 waived the last year of the GOR and came to a settlement on the exit fee with OU and Texas for them to leave a year early. Like Stech said, the ACC GOR was modeled after the Big 12. The difference is I think FSU is arguing more is about that the commissioner agreed to stuff without consultation with the member schools such as FSU. Clemson I think is saying the GOR and is too strict. So yes, that would be similar. But think Clemson was arguing also about the tv contract length too. Yes, the Big 12 has been picked over. The GOR has helped the ACC not be picked over. But the ACC members that are left once the brands leave will be classified, like the Big 12, as an island of misfits when they start inviting schools.
B

The ESPN contract and discovery puts a big ? on the length of
the contract. FSU leaked another morsal of the contract this morning, tying the GOR to teams in the conference. If FSU is not in the conference, they argue that the GOR does not apply. Tampa Bay Times.
wwhokie1 wwhokie1
Because they have not offered, and the GOR has us stuck in the ACC
