ND pushing for Cal and Stanford 😭. But SMU willing to go revenue free for
for 5-7 years. They have my attention. Brett McMurphy article ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 8/9/2023, 10:35:29 PM

These message boards…
Make such immediate hard-line opinions without hearing any of the details. “Stanford is Duke-West” “Cal is trash” “SMU makes us the AAC” And then they realize there are details like adding gigantic markets…and the tone changes 180 degrees. So funny. Details matter people. Let it play out. Buying low (like an SMU…where were TCU and Baylor 15 years ago?) and selling high is a great strategy.

I don't have a hard position on SMU, Cal or Stanford yet. But ND advocating
for Cal and Stanford is laughable. As if they have any influence now. They showed their hand when they helped the SEC grow the CFP, thereby closing the door on any possibility of joining the ACC. This came right after the ACC did ND a solid by allowing them to play in the league when ND was SOL during Covid. Needless to say, ACC ADs aren't amused. If Cal and Stanford want in, they should tell ND to be low key about it. And BTW, I like SMU's approach. They are putting their money where their mouth is. And all these people saying "SMU is not even the 5th best brand in Texas" think they have a point. But, put them in a conference like the ACC, and all of a sudden, the gap closes between them and TT, TCU and Baylor. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 8/10/2023, 12:31:00 PM

Remember when Andrew Luck & #4 Stanford whooped VT 42-10 in the Orange Bol
That was 2010. They had a pretty elite coach in those years as well. And he’s still lurking.

Amazing how fast things can change - even post Luck and post Harbaugh
they went major bowls (Rose) 3 out of 4 years in a row, had Heisman runner-ups, and were considered a top 10 program. Now look where they are.

Sources: ACC Presidents met tonight and the pursuit of Stanford and Cal for conference membership has “hit significant roadblocks.” There’d always been long odds because there wasn’t ever a significant value add. SMU had also been bandied about along with Cal/Stanford, and those conversations aren’t headed anywhere either, per ESPN sources
