PAC thinks they can trade up?
Pac-12 insider John Canzano reported the following on Thursday morning (subscription required):
-The Pac-12 CEO Group has called a meeting for Thursday afternoon. The conference athletic directors will be included on the call. They’ll talk about their media-rights options. One member of the CEO Group told me they will “discuss the opportunity to ‘trade up’ through expansion given Colorado’s decision.”

"Trade up" is spin unless they are landing ND 🤣
Oops. Forgot. Even ND is contractually obligated to another conference.

field. I'm having a hard time remembering the last time Colorado was a serious contender for a division or conference title. Whereas I don't have that same problem when it comes to schools like Boise State, Fresno State, or San Diego State. Even though success in the MWC may not translate to success in the PAC-Whatever, I do understand the optimism particular since the conference is fighting for its life. If Boise State, Fresno State, or San Diego State were able to establish themselves as contenders right away, then I might consider that to be a "step up on the athletic field" given that Colorado didn't accomplish it.

DI-FCS under the conference name United Athletic Conference (UAC) which is really an alliance between the ASUN Conference and WAC. Besides, I am not sure the WAC has any members that appeal to the PAC-Whatever.
Non-football members: California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Texas – Rio Grande Valley (will sponsor football in 2025), and Utah Valley
Football Members: Abilene Christian, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, and Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State)

Who else is out there? Also, they aren’t in a position with nine programs to add non-football members yet.

Mexico State, maybe UTEP, and maybe Nevada on that list. UNLV may even be the near the top of the list given they play home games in the Raiders' stadium now and the buzz Las Vegas has created for itself as the premier sports destination city. Athletic tournaments at all levels want to be held there. Pro clubs either want to relocate there or expand there (think NHL). I included New Mexico, New Mexico State, and UTEP because all 3 schools have a rivalry with each other, so the PAC-Whatever could want to take advantage of that depending on what happens with the 2 AZ schools and Utah.
