Simply put, for a some of schools in the ACC (e.g. BC/Wake) it’s a good thing because the most likely alternative is worse, for some (e.g. Clemson/UNC/FSU) it’s definitely worse than the most likely alternative because they probably have a landing spot in the P2, and then for the rest (e.g. VT/NCST) they are in kind of a murky situation where things will probably turn out better but could also turn out worse than the status quo. The reality is there is no way the current situation persists until 2036, the current deficit of ACC schools will eventually leave them all in non-competitive state (barring some major development or re-negotiation in of course) - a deficit of 30-50M a year will kill not only football but entire athletic departments, it’s simply untenable. That GOR is giving some stability right now sure, but that same “cure” will turn into the poison that kills us.

And VT would not have been the one more. On the other hand, the PAC might still be together. The B10 could have decided that a stripe down the East Coast was smarter than some LA teams, no matter how attractive.

But, now that the BIG has set the precedent that lesser schools can get in, but only for a reduced revenue distribution.

without the GOR, Clem, FSU and Miami would have left. No one else in conference except UNC for their basketball is a big enough fish to be assured of anything.

But I think they would grow to a point that VT would have found a home...perhaps at less money than others.
