What's not to like about the 14-team playoff (4-4-2-2-1-1)?
I am fully convinced that the P2 wants the 14-team invitational where 5 or 6 SEC/BIG teams will be featured, and it may eventually happen.
But for the immediate next step, 4-4-2-2-1-1 sounds promising. See what Dellinger said:

Sankey, after this year's debacle, would want a certainty. The BIG already proposed 3-3-2-2-1-3. The 4-4-2-2-1-1 is a better version for them. Most likely the P2 champs will get gyes.
I don’t think the B12 deserves two guaranteed bids but Yormark would absolutely take it, as the B12 doesn't have a dominant football brand.
I think Phillips will take it, too.
The good thing about this proposal is that the committee's role is limited to choosing one at-large school and the seeding.
So, what's not to like about it?

That is, it sets up a #15 P2 team getting in instead of a higher ranked non-P2. You know that is going to happen.
They are going to look nakedly greedy (I know, they don't care).

in the playoff and it’s like it never happened. Also, Alabama losing to Tennessee, it’s like it never happened too. Heck Bama losing to Vandy and blown out by Oklahoma that never happened either. 🤷♂️
Saban, is gone folks, the SEC, mainly pulled away because of Saban bringing the NFL staff way before any other school did it. He won 7 National Championships and 11 SEC titles.

Not all Euro leagues are equal, so England's Premier League gets 4 auto-bids. Same for Spain (La Liga), Germany (Bundesliga), and Italy (Serie-A). Other countries may get only 1 or 2 qualifiers (think Netherlands, Serbia, Swiss, etc.)
The CFP is basically saying B1G and SEC are the power leagues and the ACC etc. are not strong enough. It works and is accepted in soccer, so I suspect that's the future.

Auto bids for P2 would be total capitulation by everyone else.
Is the P2 afraid to earn it on the field even with their weaker OOC schedules? (Note there is now hard data confirming that the BIG and SEC have much weaker OOC schedules each year, leading to inflated rankings).
The P2 just want more money and control. Any given year under the current 12 team format we are going to have 3-5 teams from the G5, ACC, and B12. In a really strong year it could even be 6 teams. And that is the control and power and money that the P2 is afraid of putting at risk.
This is all a long con game and this baseless pandering to the P2 has to stop.

...finding the best football team. Its sole purpose is to put more money into the pockets of the conferences...specifically the P2 conferences. They can't tale all the money now, so they have to let the other conferences get a taste of the money before they exert more control over the money, I mean playoff.

Better yet, how much would a playoff pay for the rest of college football?
I say, let the P2 pay their players, and the rest of us can join a college athletic association that puts emphasis on education, the student athlete, gets government anti trust, and let the media money fall where it may. Include march madness, and all other non rev sports championships. Include FCS, and you could have something very special - like college football.

playoff games in the first two rounds. 4-4-2-2-2-2. Independents and G5 get 2, and 2 at large. That gives the ACC and B12 a shot at three, but also gives the BIG and SEC a shot at 5.
Those home games brought untold millions to the hosting schools and communities, and gives the home team an unfair advantage. No matter how they slice it, the BIG and SEC will get theirs.
Maybe the ACC should schedule some OOC games against the B12 before you assume anything in that regard.
