ESPN has a result they want, and the TV audience to make whatever case will get them the best TV ratings. They don’t even hide it anymore, or at least almost nobody that follows this believes their masquerade anymore.

I think if all else was equal, the committee would take Miami over Vandy, but not over Bama. There will be no "blind resumes" with these folks. They are ratings *****s no doubt. Best chance for VT ever getting an at-large bid is to schedule OOC big names and beating them head to head, even if you have to play them on the road. Moreover, it won't hurt their efforts to win a conference title and big outright.

For Miami. If I heard him correctly, he was pointed in saying that there will be no shuffling in rank order among schools not playing today. I.e., Miami will not jump Alabama. There was a serious flaw in his logic. He said that championship game losses do not happen in a vacuum (i.e., don’t lose if you want a berth, SMU), because they still indicate team strength. But if that were really the case, teams not playing today might conceivably shuffle amongst each other if they have wins or losses versus championship game participants. Not so. I.e., even if Georgia gets hammered today, it’s still a huge win for Bama and Miami can’t jump them. All in all, about what you’d expect from the tragicomedy that is the CFP.

then bring in some more schools. Then let the leftover Tier 2 and G6 have their own playoffs to replace the Bowls. That would create enough games during December and January to make it like it used to be when Bowls were special and kids didn’t opt out. Then do preseason matchups across the conferences, call them Bowl games if it helps. You could do them at traditional bowl sites if you want to, but I am okay supporting the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce too if they want home games. PS I would go to Fenway in August, but no chance in December. On second thought just play at Foxboro in August so you don’t have to worry about the Red Sox schedule.
