SMU hiring Maryland's Atletic Director
Interesting. Are ACC schools able to hire from the Big Ten now? Perhaps he has Texas ties, and wants to move back.

SMU can outspend any school in sports to include both Texas and Texas A&M
Who are both 2 of the highest earners in the NCAA. We are talking billions of $$$ to spend on sports. They just don't have the history or facilities.....yet

Zero chance that's true. SMU does have a high % of ultra rich donors, but
they don't compare to the big boys.

I wish that were true
SMU is probably somewhere between 3 and 5 in the state with TCU and Texas Tech. Tech has some boosters who just made a ton of money in O&G, and on a related note they have the #3 transfer class in the country. But no one can outspend Texas or A&M in the state...they both have a zillion alumni and a lot of them are football crazy.

That settlement includes a salary cap, with NIL being regulated. It
will take money, there is no doubt about that, but any school could come up with the 20M+ a year plus NIL. It will come down to institutional support, and the donors if they so choose to do so. The media contracts just make it easier for the Mississippi States of the world.

Isn't UMD chronically broke despite Big 10 $$?

I think this might be a statement on Maryland's athletic dept
My gut is Maryland is struggling financially. With the Big 10 subsidy they would be bleeding red. Locksley, has done as much as he can, but cannot get over the hump and still gets beating down by ty the Big 10 schools. He's got lots of turbulance in the staff and program is not getting attendance. (AD been trying to help, but no new sources of income). I sense Locksley on the hot seat. I also heard Willard is finalist for the Vilanova job and he's very interested. Really??? leaving a Big 10 school, in the NCAA and wants to leave.?? what's that about... I perceive something behind the scenes with MD athletics and need to grow financiallly including NIL. (when you have PSU right at your back door. SMU is proviate, unlimited resources and no need for freedom of information, but rather spend. They were in the South west conference and were competing right with Texas and A&M... the SWC craziness at the time, ended SMU posture (texas and A&M were happy and they thought they were finished). They are back and the ACC gave them a lifeline and boom they are taking advantage of it. Bottomline , if they can increase ACC perception in the national stage. Great. ACC needs other schools to do the same commitment

Don't believe he has any Texas ties...
...not sure about this hire. Sounds like fans at Maryland were happy to see him go, although he did recently sign an extension there.

Aside from the DUI.......
Evans clearly has an informed perspective on what it takes to compete at the highest levels. It will be interesting to hear SMU rationale. On the other hand, if you're a Maryland fan red flags and sirens have to be going off all around. You are taking in massive revenue from your conference address and still falling behind both financially and competitively. Your basketball coach is looking to jump ship, for whatever reason, to a school and conference that makes little sense aside from basketball being the only game in town and your AD, while complaining he cannot afford to cover one additional night in NYC for his hoops team, just accepted a job at a school that voluntarily agreed to a minimum conference revenue share for nine years. We don't even need to bring up the impending trainwreck known as Mike Locksley and the Terrapin football program. Wally Loh sucked and things do not appear to have substantially changed at College Spark.

Heard basketball coach going to NOVA
Smu is rich so that makes sense If hoops coach rolls that’s gotta be about rev sharing - nova hoops doesn’t have to share as much as Maryland does
