Should Big 12 and Acc merge and make the first "super" conference?
What if the 14 big 12 teams and 12-14 of the acc teams just joined together and started being proactive?
Pac 10 has little value right now so why would Big 12 or ACC add any of them?
if at the very least the current big 12(14) added UNC, duke, syracuse, Uva, VT, GT, Clemson, FSU, miami, nc state, BC and pitt , it could/would be a decent football conference. if somehow miami/fsu (even VT) could get back to prominence the value goes up. Not opposed to going to 28 If ND will join (i am assuming they will not) and louisville.
it would probably be the prominent basketball conference there is and that could be used as selling point early on for tv contracts.
then try and get in with some streaming services that are looking to get into sports (apple, Amazon maybe) and be proactive. sports are moving to streaming and there is some uncertainty with the future of ESPN.
its a bit of gamble but nothing ventured nothing gained.
right now if someone other than clemson joins the SEC they realistically are behind bama, uga, lsu, florida, auburn, texas, oklahoma, perhaps even tennessee and ole miss.
joining the big 10 puts you behind ohio state, michigan, penn state, wisconsin, probably USC and iowa. also ND of they join.
if playoffs expand to 12 teams, then four of those listed teams will not make it. and there s a good shot those not listed never do. If done early enough maybe the new big12/ACC can squeeze an automatic and maybe at large bid to expanded playoffs before te NCAA dies.
it certainly is a risk.......

It would be super but not elite

...take the B12 deadwood too? It might generate a fair amount of total revenue, but each school's payout will be fairly small.

That's the biggest porbelm I see with it being so large, but then again our payout maybe become smaller if we don't do anything. if we aren'tl invited to the big 10 or SEC we are doomed.no way another conference is formed and makes the money the big 10 and sec will make.

Doing nothing is probably the worst thing any team or conference can do, unless you are assured invitation to Big10 or SEC.
It's only a matter of time until another valued property is plucked, and you must protect what's left. The PAC, Big12 and ACC collectively still have A TON of value when combined... but are too weak on their own. Remember, the SEC and Big10 have tons of mediocre programs and are geographically concentrated, but they are leveraging their TV deals to pluck the highest valued remaining teams. Form a true alliance to stop any further poaching, and let's see how USC and UCLA are doing in 10 years as they'd be very isolated playing mid-west.
The following makes assumptions the super conference below could stick together (as well as get out of the ACC GOR - which I guess is doable since enough teams agree to abandon the ACC). The sum of the whole below is better than the parts. I debatably included the NorthEast trio of PITT, BC, and SYR... but I think that's okay if you require them to eat up their inventory playing each other, as well as possibly creating an unequal rev-share that is based on TV ratings.
VT - WVU, MIAMI, UVA
WVU - VT, PITT, LOU
SYR - BC, PITT, LOU
LOU - WVU, SYR, BC
BC - SYR, PITT, LOU
PITT - SYR, BC, WVU
UVA - UNC, VT, CLM
UNC - DUKE, NCSU, UVA
DUKE - GT, UNC, NCSU
NCSU - DUKE, UNC, CLE
MIA - VT, FSU, BC
CLE - NCSU, FSU, UVA
FSU - MIA, CLE, GT
GT - CLEM, DUKE, FSU
AZ - ASU, COL, UTAH
ASU - COL, UTAH, AZ
COL - UTAH, AZ, ASU
UTAH - AZ, ASU, COL
ORE - WASH, CAL, STAN
WASH - CAL, STAN, ORE
STAN - WASH, CAL, ORE
Then choose some of the higher valued big 12 teams.
Regarding scheduling, since you don't have conferences but instead a league, just go back to the old days where each team has FREEDOM to schedule outside of their required rivals, and somehow put in rules that encourage marketable matchups. This means ND could be back in the mix as each team is "independent" regarding scheduling, so they can play Stanford, Navy and whoever else they want.
This league can also adjust the transfer portal rules or possibly NIL within themselves.

I'm more interested in the Pac12 schools than the BigXII, but we'll see
who is leftover.
Also, I'd merge with all three conferences and form three tiers with relegation and promotion.
The top tier may include: Clemson, FSU, Washington, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Iowa State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, etc. at any given year. Would be a darn good lineup. Not loaded with blue bloods, but no Vandy and Rutgers either.

I think it would be better if the "elite" football programs would leave...
the B1G and SEC and form their own athletics association since they are so full of themselves.
Here is my Super Ego Conference: UCLA, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The Power 5 undesirables can add a few G-5 schools to get back to 12 or 14. There will be 1 super ego conference along with the P-5 (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC).

Maybe in 10 or 20 years, but TV contracts are the glue that is holding teams together... and none of the teams you mentioned (except maybe FSU, Clemson or Notre Dame) are leaving their home.

does that help them? or is it another band aid to survive a little longer.

Oklahoma, so the gap would be even wider after those two leave. What's the benefit to the ACC if it's going to dilute their member payouts. Essentially they don't add enough relative value.

I admit it might be hard to do with 28. isn't part of the reason the Big 12 deal is bad is because of the longhorn network?
There really was not a big 12 network because of the longhorn one. isn't that ultimately what killed off the previous big 12? the longhorn network was a huge disadvantage for the big 12 and that is no longer an issue.
I am not saying this third conference is going to make as much as the big 1o and sec from the get go, but there is probably more potential in the future. It may never close the gap, but could better than life in the SEC and certainly better than life without the ACC or SEC or Big 10,
Also, i believe the current 10 members of the big 12 get 200 million to split, while the current ACC has 240 split between 14?

so either something is done proactively to try and survive or they go ahead and fold and let teams go to the highest bidding conference. at least half of the ACC will get screwed in this scenario.
