PAC 9 extends invites to three replacements and paints them as trading up from CU. The logical candidates are SMU, UNLV, SDSU. The question is whether or not the TV deal they could leverage would be viable to stop further defections to the B12. That question would be on the minds of UA, OU, and UW particularly. UW and OU could get imbalanced shares, but would UA? For the B12, their pro rata shares of about $32M obviously can’t compete with the B1G. However, those aren’t being dangled by that conference. Could they structure something that would be competitive with reduced shares that would be? If so, it could be much more enticing. The B12 also has the most upside potential, given it’s coming together now, and the commissioner is looking at innovations to enlarge the pie, such as establishing a media presence in Mexico. I’m not sure what the ACC does at this point. It would be good to get into later time slots with P5 programs. The AFA comes to mind because of its national draw. SMU would also be good, if the PAC-X doesn’t snatch them up (plus I’d be able to see the Hokies!).
