"Academics won't matter. These numbers are interesting, but irrelevant." There is zero logic in stuff like: "In terms of where Virginia Tech is now, its research component better fits the SEC. Aspirationally, though, Virginia Tech’s research goals would seem a better match for the Big Ten. The key to Big Ten gridiron glory for the Hokies runs through its various science departments." Research doesn't "fit" in an athletic conference. Football success is independent of science departments.
