And I do agree with him about rivalries, and their deep value to college football. So I think it is tremendously sad that the ACC has thrown the VT-Miami annual rivalry in the trash can in their 3-5-5 format. You talk about an colossal unforced error. That was a TOP 10 must-play game in the ACC. That's 33 consecutive years across two conferences down the crapper. However, what I think Pate didn't speak to in that clip was that the current (last 20 years) of college football has moved in another direction. And the SEC has been part of it. The 10 teams that were always there would stand alone to make a great conference. Almost any of those two teams would be a great series to play. LSU-Florida for instance. Or Tennessee-Georgia. Or Ole Miss-Auburn. They don't really need SCar or Arkansas or Mizzou. In fact, those schools just make it so the original 10 play each other LESS which is bad in my and Pate's opinion. In fact, if they are truly about rivals, they should have taken Kansas as a partner for Mizzou. Sure, a bit light in football. But would be massive for basketball. Which brings me to the Hokies. UVa is our biggest rival. But the modern matrix of college football probably doesn't figure both of us to be in the same conference in future expansion moves. Sad.
