From a scheduling standpoint, I would think everyone would need to follow

the same model because it makes it easier when trying to establish a future schedule rotation for each school. Once the Big XII expands to 12, then it could be divided into 3 groups.

Group A: WVU, UCF, Cin, BYU
Group B: Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Okla State
Group C: Hou, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech

If those happen to be the 3 groups, then I could see fans of WVU, UCF, and Cin grow tired of always playing BYU. Heck BYU could even become their version of "Fredo" (reference to how a lot of Hokie fans view BC). They wouldn't necessary be wrong to think that because BYU probably should be in the same group as Texas Tech (based on geography). Although Group B could work too assuming Iowa St is moved to Group A. However, moving Iowa St to Group A doesn't make sense if you view it from a historic perspective. If you think about it, then you will see Group A is the "leftover group" or "oddball group" when factoring in the Big 8/SWC history.

It may even be enough for someone to conclude that Cincy, UCF, and WVU don't belong in the Big XII. Instead, they belong in a conference that is more eastern focus.

Metro 2.0 (for a lack of a better name)
Cincy
L'ville
Memphis
WVU
VT
Clemson
FSU
UCF
NC State or ECU?
Miami?
USF?
Pitt?

If those 12 teams formed a new conference, then the 2 divisions could look like this:

North: Pitt, Cincy, L'ville, WVU, VT, Memphis
South: NC State, Clemson, FSU, Miami, UCF, USF

I know 2 FL schools may be enough for the conference. However, by adding 4 FL schools, then the North teams could play 2 FL schools every year (1 home and 1 away). Plus, the 2 extra FL schools may be better than adding So. Miss, UAB, GA State, or GA Southern. Although if Pitt doesn't want to join this conference, then NC State (or ECU) could move to the North and UAB could join the South to fill that void. Regardless of which 12 end up in the Metro 2.0, I guess I would think the football would be much better than it is in the ACC and maybe even the Big XII when you start to factor in the importance of developing rivalries with the other members.

They should also go to 9 conference games, but they won't.

The problem with a 9 conference game schedule is it limits a team's

West Virginia and Navy, 1 for rivalries, the other for location, national

Hopefully the ACC won't screw this up. Go 3 permanent rivals, rotate others
Maroon Baboon 02/09/22 07:19 PM ET
The pods are simply a scheduling tool for better rotation
Mercury 02/11/22 08:32 AM ET

Rivalries matter. And they matter more than equitable schedules.

Exactly. This issue is just another reason why increasing the size
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 01:49 PM ET
The rivalries matter to the schools and their fans though
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 12:02 PM ET
Yes. ANNUAL rivalries are where it's at.
Maroon Baboon 02/10/22 01:47 PM ET
If you feel ACC need 3 built in games every season
Vippie1 02/10/22 03:07 PM ET
No. How is adding two teams going to allow us to play more often?
Maroon Baboon 02/10/22 03:18 PM ET
Even if the ACC added 1 team (i.e. WVU) and opted to go with 3 quads/pods
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 03:48 PM ET
Certainly adding teams would complicate matters.
Maroon Baboon 02/10/22 04:32 PM ET
Yes, adding teams would complicate matters
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 04:47 PM ET
3 Permanent rivals seems to only work with an even amount of teams.
Maroon Baboon 02/10/22 05:40 PM ET
FWIW I did something similar when the MAC had 13 football members
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 06:06 PM ET
14 is actually a good number
obguthr 02/10/22 08:24 PM ET
Assuming WVU became the 15th team, then limiting the protected games
VTHokie2000 02/11/22 02:31 AM ET
I'd be fine with just giving each individual school what it needs
Maroon Baboon 02/11/22 03:15 PM ET
A problem with customizing the number of protected games for each school
VTHokie2000 02/12/22 06:13 AM ET
As long as no team has more than 3 and we play 5 or more additional ACC
Maroon Baboon 02/12/22 10:43 AM ET
I'm a little surprised that you think UNC is the only team that "needs" 3
VTHokie2000 02/13/22 12:47 AM ET
I'd like to play WVU every year. But we aren't doing it now, so that is
Maroon Baboon 02/13/22 01:30 AM ET
I'm not sure NC State "could live" without playing Wake since they
VTHokie2000 02/14/22 01:21 PM ET
To be honest
Millpoint 02/11/22 10:22 AM ET
I wouldn't assume that WVU would get stuck with L'ville
VTHokie2000 02/12/22 06:22 AM ET
NC State is probably another that needs 3 (UNC, Wake, Clemson)
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 01:58 PM ET
Gawd, HOKIES getting into the weeds AGAIN
Mercury 02/10/22 09:31 AM ET
UVa needs to keep playing UNC.

EDGEMAN 02/09/22 10:46 PM ET
This x 1000**
hokie4ever 02/10/22 01:25 PM ET
I suspect you (and VT) would be in the minority on that issue
VTHokie2000 02/10/22 01:55 AM ET
BC should play Syracuse, Miami, and Pitt each year. Not VT.
Maroon Baboon 02/10/22 12:04 AM ET
Oh don't worry the ACC will make sure that VT ends up with BC, Syracuse,
VTHokie2000 02/09/22 07:32 PM ET
This makes so much sense for the ACC
Millpoint 02/09/22 01:31 PM ET
That's not necessarily an "always"

Pylons 02/10/22 11:15 AM ET

Millpoint 02/09/22 07:23 PM ET
Given that the Big XII is spread out, it makes sense for that
VTHokie2000 02/09/22 07:30 PM ET
I’d have to think the New Big 12 will do this as well
Millpoint 02/09/22 08:21 PM ET

VTHokie2000 02/09/22 08:23 PM ET

VTHokie2000 02/09/22 10:23 PM ET
