How did ND attract all of those eastern Catholics in the first place?

BC didn't

St. Norbert College in Wisconsin didn't.

ND did because it barnstormed all across the country as a football independent and kicked the asses of the big schools in the West (USC) and East (Army, Navy, Carnegie Tech, Pitt, etc...).

You put the cart before the horse.

NBC pays ND around 22-23 million a year

Honestly, not sure if this has sarcasm or not

A comment and question about Notre Dame tradition for you and @TerryD
Maroon Baboon 01/21/22 11:16 AM ET
It is beyond a tradition at ND. Independence is what made us the brand we
goldendomer 01/21/22 12:58 PM ET
It is not a "tradition". It is Notre Dame's very identity

I think ND threw the origin story away with the partial ACC membership

I didn't say it was noble. I just said it was unique, based on history**
