Okay you know I love you, but I don’t think you knuckleheads get it, that’s
on me, so let me try again.
First let me say I totally understand why you are blind to what I am about to say, because until last night, texting with a friend, I didn’t get it. Also, let me let you know that since Texas Oklahoma and even more the last week with USC/UCLA, I thought Virginia Tech needed to find a way to the SEC or B1G. Either were fine with me, the SEC has the passion for football that Virginia Tech fans have, the B1G has the Academics and large Universities that are doing mind blowing research, and Virginia Tech has that same philosophy. Say what you want about it, but it’s easier to have someone return your call, when you are in the same conference. However that is not the reason for this post, so let’s not go there.
Right now College Football owns the playoff and thus they make the money, it is about $400 million and growing. It will grow more when we expand, and we all know it’s expanding.
However, the NCAA basketball tournament is owned by the NCAA. They make about 1 Billion dollars a year. It was subtle, but the former President of ESPN, who was the mastermind behind the B1G, SEC and ACC deals. Believe me, he likely makes more Consulting now than in that job. He’s seen behind the curtain and knows what the networks need and want. He also said at tournament time the ACC is the best Conference. Why is that important? Because 85% of the money made by the NCAA on basketball (apx. 1.16 Billion) is made during the NCAA tournament.
So this is huge!! If the Power 64 break off and run their own National Championship tournament like he says they will, who is going to make the most money? The best football schools Conference or the best basketball schools Conference?
I will answer my own question: ACC ACC ACC ACC!! We don’t want to leave that!!
PS John Skipper is a Carolina Grad, he has his faults for sure, but another thing that is for sure, he LOVES NORTH CAROLINA. North Carolina as we all know, runs the ACC and they will never run the SEC or B1G and they don’t want to.
I said it below and I will say it again, who does Notre Dame want to bring with them to the ACC? I know I am a 1 man band with this, but I hope it’s Navy!! By the way their TV audience was better than the Miami Hurricanes last year.
PS I don't think you are knuckleheads, I just wanted to get your attention like my coach used to do. :-)
