We disagree again you way over value the Big 12, understandable but still
The Big 12 is as stable as the ACC will be once FSU and Clemson leave. Both will be conferences without a real blueblood with one is a more densely populated area but with more P2 direct competition. The other more sparsely populated but with less direct P2 competition.
When Cal and Stanford joined I saw no reason for it whatsoever. And having followed the ACC mostly with VT trying to gain admission, I knew that for this to come up and get done so quickly told me this was not ACC driven. They have just never done business like that. Then at the same time the AZ schools and Colorado quickly went to the Big 12, Utah a little more slowly.
Sure looks like some dictating from higher place$ to me. But why? because unlike WSU and OSU, the media cares about those 6 schools and have some future purpo$e for them way above moving them eastward into different time zones.
Actually maybe the B12 and ACC were lucky because had the PAC played ball in the way it was "supposed" to be disassembled the most of the B12 and ACC would already be in the same class as OSU and WSU.
My current take is that when the PAC forced ESPN pulled the plug, they offered B12 spots to the 6 but 3, Stanford, Cal and Utah balked thinking the Texas and OU less B12 was too far of a step down for them.
I think the idea that the Big 12 and the ACC acted proactively is an illusion.
