You are mistaken if you think my reply assumes the ACC would be on par with
the P2. My reply was to "we wouldn't be in this position" and I am saying that the ACC wouldn't be in a stronger position. I believe the ACC having too many private schools and being a basketball first conference would have still been a bigger anchor than what FSU and Miami could overcome. It is possible, maybe even likely, that the ACC would have still agreed to the bad deal with ESPN because the ACC did not have enough football programs remain consistently good like you saw in the Big Ten. Back then the Big Ten had Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Nebraska for its football brand. While the ACC would have had Florida State, Miami, Clemson, and Virginia Tech for its football brand. Now if North Carolina and North Carolina State had stepped up, then the ACC would have had more leverage to negotiate a better deal.
