Why are we giving ESPN an extension on the decision?

Seems like more weakness from the ACC front office. If ESPN decides to bag out, are they going to give us an extra year after 2027 to compensate us for the extra year we are giving them to make the choice? I doubt it. Meanwhile, if ESPN pulls the plug, the ACC and each school will have one less year to find a new contract or plan for a new conference. If I am missing something here, please advise.
