I agree, he really didn't have much to deal with
So many see their perspectives of TODAY, not when the ACCN and new contract came into existence. After the VT BC Miami expansion, ESPN TV revenue was not increasing. While VT Miami were playing fine, the other schools were doing nothing but demanded more money. Then, FSU was threatening to leave, if we dont get more money and demanded Swofford to push ESPN. ESPN just laid it out, value was flat lined, and they didnt have enough markets to generate any more rights. Therefore, ACC went after Pitt and Cuse (and the partnership with ND). That opened the door for ESPN, HOWEVER, ESPN was still not sold, and FSU and clemson were demanding if SEC gets a network we should too. For ESPN, in lieu of rights, they worked the ACCN into existence and only if the ACC would sign a GOR and lock into ESPN. FSU was pushing this and ACC worked it and at the time it was the best contract. ESPN knew ACC was overvalued but getting them locked in for so long, was easy.
FSU was been and always been shaky with the ACC, they came in the late 1989, to frankly use the ACC for easy way to national championships and ACC was interested in PR. rest of ACC really didn't care about football.
