I respect your opinion, but it is not in alignment with anything that has-

happened thus or any of the available record regarding the recent round of conference realignment, meaning what has transpired since Oklahoma and Texas announced they were leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. Excluding football, which is extremely lucrative and drives massive viewership, college athletics, including everything about men's basketball except the NCAAT at this point, is an entirely niche product. College basketball has not driven conference realignment for anyone except the Big East Conference since the 1980s, and everything else - women's basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, etc., etc., etc. is even more niche, exponentially so. It is also entirely apparent that academics and AAU membership are afterthoughts as well. At the end of the day, the same thing that has always driven conference realignment is still driving it now - MONEY. The only thing that changes is where that money is coming from. It used to be cable markets and carriage fees. The lost drops of juice are currently being squeezed out of that lemon. Now it's about compelling content, meaning big football programs playing other big football programs that will generate massive numbers - more or less bowl games played on a weekly basis. You can argue that VT is outside that bubble, but if VT is outside it, UVA is also outside it, and about a mile beyond where VT is sitting. The next round of conference realignment may be entirely about something else, but that's what this around is about, that's my point, and it's 100% correct. ** Edited by Baltimore_Hokie at 7/2/2025, 12:53:00 PM
